They've also been available in HP and Compaq machines for a while. Costco even has LightScribe-compatible DVD+R media as an option when you purchase a machine.

See http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigurator.aspx?prodid=10029571&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=4335&hierPath=84*4335*&model=PU028AV%23ABA as an example.

Not to mention 3 DL discs for $9.99. Wish they offered that to anyone. :)

I noticed that Supermediastore.com has 30 pack spindles of Verbatim 52X CD-Rs for $19.99. Is DVD media available? and where is the cheapest but reputable place to purchase them from?

Thanks!

Awesome...Thanks Ian!

I just hope that Memorex isn't using Prodisc for their LightScribe media!

This makes no sense, if all the LightScribe burners are brand new, then they must be 16X, so why 8X media?

You are already paying a premium for the LightScribe coating, just do 16X and be done with it. Aaah the marketing geniuses!!! #-o

Engadget had a link to CDFreaks test of the Phillips LightScribe burner, I figured you already knew and I didn't want to steal your thunder.

Gotta earn it. :D

I need to pick up some more LightScribe discs. I need to do some more practicing before you see any of my artwork.

Anyone else playing around with the LightScribe support in Nero? Why do they need to install another service on the computer?

The HP DVD640i showed up in a local store (€ 109). There isn't a useable picture on the box, but the serial no. (424 50 600 xxxx) reeks of LiteOn. Verbatim LiteScribe CDR's are €10 for 10 (more than printable 8x DVD+R :o). At those prices, this isn't very attractive.

Lessee, from the review...special drive, special media, special application (unless you get Nero and the special serial number) so you can take 6 minutes for the burn and another 15 minutes or more for the label. Oh Joy!! 6 minutes laser time +15 minutes laser time minimum = how many discs can I burn before the laser goes out??

No thanks.

Probably much more than you would need.

70,000 hours is the MTBF. Here

So assuming you burn non-stop, the laser working every single second of every day, which is not realistic, it would still go for almost 8 years.

I picked up some Verbatim Lightscribe media tonite. Here's one of the discs I've made so far:

If you have a cool disc label in Nero Cover Designer format, let me know and I'll try printing it out.

Doesn't get any more uncomfortable on a bus than this:

What LightScribe media? I have yet to see any DVD, only LightScribe CD-R media. Does anyone burn CD's anymore? Rare for me, only to transfer some [small] files.

And yes, people still burn CDs. My car CD player really doesn't do so well with CD audio on DVDs. Not sure about yours.

I've seen tons of Verbatim LS CD-R media. HP media is also showing up in some places as well.

I finally got some of Verbatim's LS DVD+R media too.

I wouldn't mind trying it once the companies stop the rip-off....at least BenQ admits it though....see the Benq story at the cdlabs front page.
