Is 16x DVD-media systematically better than DVD+ media?

P16 stands for Problematic 16. Which means this disc would be problematic to burn at 16x (I'm serious here )


But why sell them as RIDISC extreme which is E-net premium Ritek brand that's supposed to be a real A-grade product.
Also traxdata has give some places samples (Cdfreaks for instance. Pioneer 109D ->4x in there review ! )

But there's hope according to my latest info quite some new firmwares allow it now to burn at 8x or 12x don't know if pioneer fixed it.

R05 I have seen on Philips site however I have reasons to doubt that we really will see this one on the market. Remember the famous G06 ! (It exists and was going to replace G05 that was untill G05 got much better support and some component prices dropt which made continueing with G05 a better option.

Not a chance. DVD-R might sell better in America but no way that the difference is that large. Not sure how true the following numbers are but it's a recent quote from MMIS:
"DVD-R/RW discs are more popular in the U.S. than DVD+R/RW media, but just the opposite is true in Western Europe. Worldwide, the latest estimates from Taiwan show DVD+R with 51 percent of the worldwide market for write-once DVD-type discs; for the three rewritable formats, DVD+RW has a 40 percent share, DVD-RW a 34 percent share, and DVD-RAM 26 percent."
Other numbers I've seen also show pretty small difference between worldwide sold DVD-R and DVD+R discs and I doubt we burn that much more in Europe than in US...

I didn't make that number up. That number is true for both my workplace's sales, as well as a few media distributors and certain media manufacturers that I work very closely with.

Well in Holland +R is leading thanks to Philips infact most -R volume users buy there disc's from somewhere else to avoid the levy's (0.40 on +R and 0.60 or -R)

About USA it's not 100:1 but still the difference for america seems to be huge.

The new P16 are not so long on the market I know one shop who sells these and infact they only started selling them a few weeks ago.
So not some months !!

Sorry, I mean the R04. Long avaible, but most drives don´t like them

Yup, you're right. I just double checked with one of my contacts and they're at ~10:1 for DVD-R to DVD+R. But Canada really is a lot closer to 100:1 (although that isn't counting the big box stores like Futureshop and Best Buy).

Point is that there's a lot of unofficial -R media that's sold in Asia if my info is right then the models which suggest that one format is selling more as the other didn't take this market in account because it's hard to know how big this market really is.

I think media sales ,depends on sales of stand alone burners support both formats and marketing of some brands in combination of computer burners spread.

-Here in Greece till end of 2003,sales of DVD+R media were
very low ,even many computer burners support them .
This happened because, at first, the few cheap home burners not support them, at second, DVD home players have many problems in playing pure DVD+R.

-Now thanks most to cheap LG,Sony (and some second class) home recorders, dual format burning is preffering more and more -This moment sales of DVD+R media is 50% each format here.

Athough Philips sales remain at top of sales among cheap branded machines ,only support DVD+R . -Due spread of cheap computer burners , many people learn about dual formats ,so next step is looking for home DVDrec to support both , due also in small difference in retail price. So shares of DVD+R sales maybe increase ....
