Acro Circle (Optodisc) tests to come

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

wicked1, are you multi-tasking while burning? try letting the burning process have all the resources while writing the disc. burning is very HD intensive.

edit: also disable you internet connection, while burning.

Hrm, looking at Wicked1's pictures, his CPU usage is through the roof!! you might be on to something there with the computer having some sort of problems providing data to the drive. It's possible that buffer underrun protection is kicking in, and Taiyo Yuden media is better at handling it then Acro Circle (actually, Optodisc makes media especially for situations like this, but it's hard to get :P ).

yeah pay no attention to the CPU usage on my tests. It isnt accurate at all. My drives arent on IDE channels and I run CPU cooling software. Makes the CPU look like its 100% busy alot of the times but its not.

Aren't on IDE channels??? :o

Wanna elaborate on that?

Looks like I can't see the forest for the tree's eh? I've been staring at this media issue so hard I couldn't even see enough of the circumstances around it!

Hey Wicked1, any chance you could hook the DW1640 up to you IDE controller directly (preferably Secondary Master) and try burning with your funky CPU cooler thing turned off for a moment?

I know it's a lot of work, but I'd like to rule that out if possible.

I can do that. I will redo a scan with it on my motherboards IDE port. Secondary is totally open for flashing drives incase they dont like the firewire or SATA bridgeboards. I made the switch because it flows data alot faster with less overhead. and I can have as many drives as I want and not worry about IDE channels. I have my Samsung drive sitting ontop of my case no enclosure or anything hooked up to my Antecs outside power plug with a firewire bridgeboard on it so I can rip DVD's in Linux using Wine and DVDDecrypter. I will disable all applications and burn another test disc and then benchmark it tonight on my IDE port with my BENQ.All the drives in my signature are installed in my one computer :D

I'm using the Cooler Master CM Stacker, and it has space for 11 5.25" drives. I'm only using 5 though in it right now (4 IDE, and 1 PX-716SA).

IS that what we could call a Dophin friendly case. :D

a generic server case I got online a while back with 6 5.25 bays. The other drive sits on top of the case. Kinda ghetto but it works. It has 6 3.5 bays internal and 2 external as well. I have 6 hard drives in it now. 4 on a silicon image 680 pci controller 2 on the motherboards IDE. Optical on a silicon image 3114 onboard controller. And the rest on fwdepot.com firewire adapters daisy chained and hooked to the onboard firewire controller. 3 printers,2 routers,1 DSL modem,1VOIP box,1 flatbed scanner,1 USR Courier modem,1 separate fax machine,Palm pilot(sony),and lots of USB crap hooked to 6 onboard USB ports and 6 VIA USB ports on a PCI card. Takes up the whole wall in my bedroom. My wife complains alot.

Well, I want to go SATA as much as possible, since the cords are so much smaller, but there aren't a lot of drives that support it yet. But yeah, I also ran out of IDE ports

Heh, I knew you were, but I thought I'd respond as well since my case could support as many drives

The case is awesome! It has space for 2 power supplies, and lot's of cooling fans (I have a 350Watt PSU dedicated to my fans, and a 500Watt PSU for everything else :P ). It's really easy to open up and move things around in too. The only down side is that it's so much taller and longer then most towers, so it won't fit under most computer desks, and it's almost as deep and my computer desk, so I had to put it on the corner of my desk where the 'L' shape is, so that it would fit comfortably. I like the casters that it comes with though, since moving this thing with everything in it is a pain in the ass! Even though they aren't hooked up currently, I've got another 2 DVD Burners in the tower, just waiting for a good PCI IDE card to get them running as well

It's a highly recommended case for anyone who has a lot of 5.25" drives, that's for sure!! :D

I am using just a cheap pci IDE card that has the Silicon Image 0680 chipset on it. Works great. I have a few of them laying around my maxtor 250 gb hard drives came with some too. I like them because they work just as fast as onboard and work well with Linux and Windows plus if the need ever arrises they work good with optical drives too.

what PCI IDE card are you thinking of getting ?

i bought a while ago a Siig card called USB2.0+1394+UltraATA133 RAID. it was rather cheap (compared with a similar combo USB2.0, FireWire and SATA-RAID) i guess because it's ATA not SATA. since you need ATA, you might find one rather cheap. they also have plain cards without USB, FireWire, RAID.

here is a disc that I burnt doing a decent transfer rate test. I chose 8X it burned between 2.3-4X. QSuite is saying not to burn these discs higher than 4X. I had SB on too.

Here's the first disc that I've burned of the discs sent to me by Wicked1.

Something went a bit wrong near the end of the disc, as you can see the PIF spike, but still not a horrible burn. I'm doing a transfer rate test right now, and will post it in a few minutes.

As I expected, the PIF spike caused problems in the transfer rate test. Looked fine other then that though
