Newbie needs Help with DVD Burning

Postby rkunderhill on Fri Sep 02, 2005 8:33 pm

Hi, I am a newbie when it comes to DVD burning and setting up the software to do what I want. I need some instruction please.

I got my DVD burner yesterday, and some DVD+R DL. I got the DVD burner set up, burned two disks, They work fine in the burner, but when I put them in my main DVD/CD-RW, they won't register.

Here is my equipment, media and software
DVD+/-RW 16x+|NECND-3520A BG - OEM - (external) USB 2.0 connection
QSI CDRW/DVD SBW242C - (internal) came with computer

Media: RiDATA, Double Layer DVD+R DL 2.4x

Software: Nero Ulta 6.6

Can anyone help me with this problem? I am going crazy. I want to be able to burn the DVD, then read them in my DVD Rom in my computer.

I have no problem reading other DVD's from other burners.

When burning I am creating a mutli session if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your help.

I went back later and copied the DVD's and on the copy I closed the session, however, My DVD-Rom, CD-rw still won't read that one.

Does your DVD-ROM even support the DVD+R DL format?

Are the discs readable in the drive that burned them?

What happens if you don't use multisession?

Yes my DVD RW supports the DVD+R DL

They are readable in the drive I burn them from.

When I didn't use multisession, I can read the disk in the drive I burned from, but could not read in the drive in the computer.

Yes, your DVD RW supports DVD+R DL.. but that doesn't mean that the drive in your computer does.

According to the Nero Info tool, the drive in my computer does support DVD+R DL for reading. Is there anyother way to find out for sure? Could I be burning the disk wrong or could it be the disk itself? What other information do you need?

the media you are using is RiDATA (=made by Ritek), not the best media there is. their DL isn't very good.

Hello!

Like dodecahedron wrote, Ritek DL-media is not good, maybe the crappiest DL-media you can get.

The NEC 3520 sets the booktype of +R DL-media automatically to DVD-ROM, I guess. This should make the media readable for most drive.

With Cdspeed you can make a disc-quality-test of your media.

1.What OS are you using?Only 2000/XP support multi-session.
2.Update the firmware of your drives at www.rpc1.org
3.Use DVDDecrypter(in ISO Mode) or RecordNow Deluxe to burn.

I have xp. My problem was the media. So thanks for help on that.

But now I am having a problem recording Movies. I downloaded DVDshrink, I got the movie saved on my harddrive, then when I went to burn (I bought new DVDs, Maxell and Memorex), could not find Verbatium. Do I need to download DVDDecrypter to burn backups of my DVD movies? I have right now Nero Ultra 6.6 and DVDShrink. I just don't know exactly what to do, or how to do it, This is all brand new to me.

You can download DVDDecrypter here:
www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
In DVDShrink when you backup it will ask you what you want to do,choose "make an ISO and burn with DVDDecrypter".
BTW...if you're using DL go to Preferences and select DVD-9 for target.
