Verbatim disc

Postby disk2 on Sat Sep 17, 2005 6:21 am

I have just received all type of discs exept DL's from Verbatim
My q'n is this:
On all my spindles or jewelcase it say's that it's being made by Verbatim and Mitsubishi Chemical Company made in Taiwan.
On some however it say's made in Singapore or India.
All discs have a Verbatim label and are being wrapped in Verbatim paper prints.

Do i have bought junk discs where the media code has been ripped by some cheap media comp. and is selling and labeling them as Verbatim discs.

Als on alle my discs i can see the media code and manufacturer exept on cd and rw discs. Is this normal?
I'm running a Plextor 716A with plextools and Nero 6.6.16

Tell me it's ok

Are they 16X?
If so use them and give us a report! Most of us have had great results with Verbatum!

Yes, they are 16 speed.

Like i said i have received them for less than a hour and i just read on the package about the diffirence in manufacturing place that i started to wonder.
I than looked with Nero at the specs.

So please allow me some time to find out more.

If anybode else know about this do let me know.

Thanks.

verbatim primarily manufactures its discs at 4 locations:

A)It's own factory in Singapore

B)Through CMC Magnetics in Taiwan (using Verbatim quality control and stampers)

C) Through Prodisc in Taiwan (using Verbatim quality control and stampers)

D)Through Moser Baer in India (using Verbatim quality control and stampers)

Ergo, the 4 different manufacturing locations mentioned

but for 'regular' (not cutting-edge) media, what i said is true.

Thanks very much for the info about manufacturing locations.

If i understand it well than it is not important where the discs are being made it's just a matter at who's techspecs quality level they are being made that of the disc manufacturer or in this case Verbatim.

When (any) a disc manufacturer can meet and make discs at Verbatims quality level than the location of where the discs are being made is of no importance. Correct?

Perhaps it's similar like Toyota who makes cars in Japan, but also in other country's and when it meets the same quality level as in Japan than it's not important where the car was being build.

Mines are this:
DVD+R: MCC004/India
DVD+RW:MKMAO2/Taiwan
DVD-R: MCC03RG20/Taiwan
DVD-RW: MCC01RW4x/Singapore
CD-R: ? can'f find any info in Nero/India
CD-RW: ? can't find any info in Nero/Taiwan

Final q/n, how do i format new cd-rw/dvd-/+rw discs.

Again thanks for the information it helps to understand it all as there is a lot of blabla about this subject on several forums.

Only if they're Taiyo Yuden.... Verbatim Japan is used for R&D only now, so it's possible for review sites to get engineering samples from Japan, but you'll never see them retail. I doubt even Japan gets Verbatim media made in Japan :o

I've heard of Japanese, MCC coded (4X an 8X, IIRC) discs in jewel cased 5 packs before available at places like CompUSA before.

I just bought a couple of 5 packs Verbatim DVD-R 8X 'Pastel Discs' in slim-line cases and it says 'Made in Japan' on the wrapper, they're advertised with a mid code of TYG.02.

Not cheap though at UKP0.40 each.

Edit: Just noticed Taiyo Yuden (8x) Unbranded DVD-R TYG.02 are available here in spindle tubs of 100 for UKP35.00 so the cased discs aren't too expensive ! But I'm not about to buy one just to discover country of origin :-?

All Pastels are made by TY. The ones labeled color is a mixed bag though, can be (most likely AFAIK) MCC but in some cases TY.

In either case, you can't go wrong with the Pastels.
