My 8x -R are made in India, my 16x -R in Taiwan. Never had 8x and 16x from Japan

Only if they're Taiyo Yuden.... Verbatim Japan is used for R&D only now, so it's possible for review sites to get engineering samples from Japan, but you'll never see them retail. I doubt even Japan gets Verbatim media made in Japan
