Help pls DVD+R/DL Burn trouble with Nero/Memorex/NEC 2510A

Postby Rudy on Sun Oct 16, 2005 10:12 am

Need help please.

I am getting the following error when trying to burn (dvd copy on the fly) my non-copy protectted DVD onto a Memorex DVD+R DL disc. I am using Nero 6.6.0.16 and a Maddog 8X DVD+R DL Drive (NEC 2510A) with the latest firmware found in the Maddog site for this drive. NEC firmware does not recognize the drive.

Here is part of the Nero log. The errors displayed in the Nero Window are the lines # 16, 17, and 18:

Have you seen this error before? How to solve it?
. This is the first time I attempt to burn DL on this setup. Otherwise it did not give any problems for more than 1 year already.

i would guess it's bad media.
can you provide more info on it? specifically MID code.

this is where my knowledge (and help) ends.
but i think others more knowledgeable than me will tell you that that media is not very good (mildly put).

That media is horrible, my 1640 wont write it very well, my 1620 barely makes a working copy, and my 3500 did OK and it worked but the error rates were higher then I'd like. If you have high compatibility mode turned on, turn it off and try again. My first try died at the layer change becuase of that.
Verbatim DL media works well in almost any drive so you might want to try that when you get some more.

FWIW:

I never "copy on the fly."
I always copy to image and then back to media.

I've tried the Memorex DVD+R DL now on sale at Best Buy with good results.

YMMV. Other Terms and Conditions Apply.

Thank you for your answers.

Yes, I suspect a problem between the Magdog version of the 2510A and the Memorex media. I guess this is why Memorex DL is on sale at Best Buy, and it was on sale last week at Compusa.

Note: I get the same error if I copy to hard drive first and then I try to burn, so it is not the copy on the fly the cause of this problem.

Actually, I had good luck with that media.
NECs are good drives.
My guess is the MadDog firmware.

Get some Verbatim media at buy.com. Get the three pack.
If that doesn't work, it is the firmware.

You are right.

I actually did not have the latest maddog firmware. They had 2 posted.

Loaded new firmware and solved the problem with Memorex DL media. Thank you.
