Sony +Rs TY Made in Japan

Postby seaegg on Fri Dec 09, 2005 4:08 am

I bought a 50 spindle of these at Walmart this morning for $24.97 CDN and was pleasantly surprised to see they were not only MIJ but also YUDEN000-T02-00 discs. Thought you guys might be interested. I'm going to buy a spindle of the -Rs tomorrow out of sheer curiosity to see of they're TYs as well.

It's been known for a while that the Sony 8x +Rs MIJ were TYs :) The DVD-Rs are not though, they are Sony media (SONY08D1). They're pretty comparable to TYG02 in terms of quality, in my experience.

I had bought only their -Rs before which like you were saying burn quite nicely. One media I'll never buy again is Maxell. Their quality has gone into the toilet in the past year or so.

They had some problems with Ritek media... but have since switched to CMC for their consumer grade media. The CMC stuff has been quite good so far, and I'm personally keeping an eye on them  However, for comparisons to Taiyo Yuden or Sony Japan, you should be looking at Maxell "Plus Series" DVD-Rs, which are made in Japan by Maxell themselves. Expect these to go on sale at near Taiyo Yuden pricing at NCIX pretty soon.

In other news... I feel sorry for Maxell having to put up with my demands all the time

Thanks for the heads up. I've seen a couple in London Drugs but the price is a bit too steep for my pocket. I'll grab a 50 spindle of them from NCIX in the new year to try out.
