Apparently Nec (or someone else) is threatening people who
enable cross-flashing the 3550 to a higher model. There is a
long thread over at cdfreaks
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=166962
Liggy was (to the best of my knowlegde) the first person to
enable cross-flashing on the 3550. I was a beta-tester for
his software. The first trial didn't work, the second trial
did work (this on approximately December 18th of 2005). I was
able to cross-flash my 3550 to a 4550, and successfully write
to DVD-RAM. This was not exactly a big deal to me, I really
could care less about DVD-RAM, and I certainly don't care
about LabelFlash. But it was there, and so I played with it.
At about this same time, Liggy apparently received pressure
from someone or something, and decided not to release his
software for cross-flashing. He asked me not to give his
software to anyone else, and I have honored his request.
Reading between the lines, it appears that someone else spread
the software. Apparently someone who was beta-testing, or
someone who was helping in some other way.
To this day, Liggy denies that Nec pressured him. And yet, it
is obvious that SOMEONE pressured him. Who, if not Nec? It's
obvious that Liggy is not going to say. Does anyone here know
just who is applying this "pressure"?
