NeroVision 3 & 4 produce only PAL AVIs

Postby VideoRoy on Fri Apr 21, 2006 5:11 pm

I having been trying to use Nervision 3 & 4 from Nero 6 & 7 to convert some MPEG files I have copied from my Pioneer DVD Recorder. I need to convert them to AVIs for a project I am working on.

When I go to output to DV AVI (Type-2) in either version of NVE, I get a message that says something like "Most of your video is NTSC but if you continue your AVI will be output to PAL with the current settings. Would you like to use NTSC instead?" I click yes but at the end the AVI is in PAL mode when I try to import it into other programs.

I am in the US and only use NTSC all settings I can find in Nero anywhere are set to NTSC so I cannot figure out what is going on.

Any suggestions on how I can make sure Nero will product a NTSC AVI file?

Any help is appreciated.

When you first launch Nero Vision, before you add any content, go to the MORE->Video Options and under GENERAL set the Video Mode to NTSC.

This will ensure that all DVD's you create, or files you export, will be NTSC format. Even if the sources were mixed NTSC and PAL.

Craig,

That did not solve the problem, but I did figure out what the problem is.

If you choose the "DV" Template it is hard coded for PAL output. Even though it asks the question if you want to export to NTSC instead it forces PAL. This is in NV 3 & 4.

I can get around it if I use Custom, but I do not know what Video Compressor (codec) to use. The Audio is PCM but if you could tell me which compressor is used for the DV template that would be great.

Thanks.

As an alternative, is there a way to specify my own codec?

Hmm, your right, it does default to PAL. I don't have my Cannon Digital Camcorder on me, as I'm curious of it would default to NTSC format if it detects a Camcorder that supports NTSC.

Either way, I consider this a bug and have created a bug entry for it and requested if there it's possible to set this up in custom, and if so, what compression to use. But to be honest I don't think it will be a feature in Custom settings. :-?

I'll get back to you once I have a response from our Engineers in Germany. Should only be a day or two, but I will be at the NAB show in Vegas from this Monday to Thursday, so you may not here from me till Friday. As the response will come over our Task Tracker Database and I can not access this while on the road.

You need to use a ACM codec such as this one:
www.free-codecs.com/download/Panasonic_DV_Codec.htm

Thanks burninfool. I already have that one but I cannot find a way within Nerovision to specify my own codec. The choices that are available are the standard ones and even though I have others including the Panasonic loaded it does not give it as a choice.

The standard ones are not that good and after inspecting the AVI that NVE creates, it is not using one of those standard ones. So I am in a catch 22. The DV template will only output in PAL and if I choose Custom I can make a low quality NTSC at the right frame size but it is not good enough.

My only alternative is to use Virtualdub-MPEG2 with the Panasonic codec and process the MPEGs to AVIs that way. I just started the batch job that will take ~6hours to complete doing this very thing.

I still believe this is a bug in Nerovision that I cannot get around but would like to.

Thanks Craig. I did not see your post before my last one there.

I have an alternative for my current project but I really perfer using Nero. It is funny that this appears to have been a bug for a long time and it has not been reported before. I think this is a great feature in the product.

I appreciate your help.

Bump.

Craig,
I have some more projects coming up and was wondering if the team may have a work around for this?

Thanks.

HI VideoRoy,

I've not seen anything in the task tracker, and I'm on the road again till Monday, so it's not easy for me to communicate with the right Engineers to 'move' this along, or get an ETA.

I hope to have some more solid information for you by next week.

Sorry.

Craig

Thanks Craig. I have a work around outside of Nero but much prefer to do this work within the application.

Thanks for the attention.
