Question on burning DVD media

Postby Pilgrim on Thu Jun 08, 2006 10:33 pm

A friend of mine asked if Nero 6 Ultra is sufficient to burn DVDs. Since I don't have a DVD drive, I thought I'd ask here. He owns a Samsung SH-W162 16X DVD+-RW 5X Dual Layer DVD writer. And if Nero 6 would work fine, what program within the suite would he use?? Excuse my ignorance on this matter. hehe

to burn dvds you can use regular nero burning rom or nero express

nero express is basically a fancy front end to nero burning rom

it also depends on what your putting on these dvds

The first thing you want to do is to upgrade to latest Nero 6.6.... or better Nero 7 and then try to burn the DVD and report back the result.

Well I believe I can find six I think my son has a copy that I gave him but I'm not going to spend $80 to $100 dollars for a new copy of Nero just to burn DVDs.

Dodecahedron I'll try it again and post the log.

don't upgrade to Nero 7, it's still buggy.
use Nero 6 (the latest version 6.6.1.4).

The log file shows a communication problem either with the Recorder, or the VIA IDE controller, as seen by the below error message...

11:26:35 AM #24 SCSI -1046 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1447
SCSI Exec, HA 0, TA 0, LUN 0, buffer 0x025C0000

0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x30 0x05

I would recommend that you upgrade the firmware on the recorder; update the drivers for your VIA IDE Controller if available; and if all that fails, try Nero 6 if you have it.

P.S. I would also edit your log file that you posted to remove the Nero 5 Serial key. Not sure if anyone would want a Nero 5 serial key, but it's not wise to give away something you purchased. :)

Burning DVDs

Postby P.D. Nelson on Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:09 am

Gentlemen I thank you for your help I believe I've found my issue. Seems my burner won't burn 16x DVD-r and I've checked with the rest of my stuff ans sure enough it was a 8x DVD-r and I've investigated this particular drive on the net, not a lot of good things to say about it but the man thing was nothing above 8x DVD-R can be burnt on the thing.

BTW CCAmpbell the version 5 nero was an OEM disk that came with the machine.

I'm curious- you talk about a CD and the size of your video is certainly compatible with a CD, but the disc you actually used is a DVD? Are you sure that you set up your compilation for a DVD? On the other hand, the Nero log also repeatedly refers to both CD's and DVD's :o, but that may be the ancient version 5.x you're using.

I would definitely try Nero 6. Your drive should have come with an OEM version of Nero 6- dig that up and use it...

Your LiteOn SOHW-1633S will burn 16x DVD-R media- although not at 16x! I own a 1213S, now crossflashed to 1653S (fw CS0T) and have successfully burned 16x DVD-Rs. If you're willing to void your warrantee (which means "don't send it to LiteOn if it gets broken") you can crossflash your drive to a 1653S (the hardware is the same). The CS0T firmware is the best available for the 3S series of drives. Use this firmware from the codeguys's site and have a look at further tools and information available there while you're at it- it's well worthwhile!

Also Ritek media can be iffy- try Verbatim (MCC) or Taiyo Yuden.

Well first let me tell you've upgraded to Nero 6 (another oem disk I had) and it was at the codeguys forum that I learned about my particular player and how lame it is. I also tried (not that one I'll grant you) their flash thing to change my BGS4 to something else but I still got no love with my 16x disks. So I've given them to my son who has no troubles and I'll just burn to my 8x of which I bought 30 for $12.00 at a discount store.

Oh yes I did make sure it was DVD also.

BTW how do you find out the media version?
