Which Pioneer 111 model writes DVD-RAM natively?

I am having trouble finding a straight answer, trying to figure out which version of the Pioneer 111 drives do DVD-RAM (writing!) natively, without having to cross-flash or anything.

Newegg has a black and white "111D", but makes it sound like only the white one writes DVD-RAM; the black kinda hedges a bit. In the past the "D" models did NOT write to DVD-RAM, has that changed? Or flipped? (that the "D" models write DVD-RAM and non-D does not?)

ZipZoomFly does not show any Pioneer 111 versions capable of DVD-RAM writing.

I assume the retail kits (DVR-710? Is that the DVR-111?) don't write DVD-RAM.

I would prefer to not crossflash because DVD-RAM support is fairly important to me and don't like the idea of the drive not officially supporting it in case there ARE any issues with the DVD-RAM capabilities of flashed units...

Model 111D will NOT burn DVD-RAM media

Model 111 NO D or a11XL WILL burn DVD-RAM media

Also the 111L WILL burn DVD-RAM as well as label flash media

If you want a retail drive, look for the DVR-710. It's essentially a DVR-111 in a retail box.

I'm glad I got an A09XL when they were available. Stupid Pioneer taking the XL models off the US market because of dumb Dell customers Oh well, there's always ebay. I've seen some A11XL drives there.

Dell customers? I never heard about that. My understanding was that the XL series was too expensive for the US market. People just weren't willing to shell out the $$$ for the fancy bezel, etc.

The trays were too wide for Dell bezels from what I've heard, and there were a lot of complaints.

So the 710 will write DVD-RAMs natively? Interesting...

I've heard the Dell case issue as well. Seems like Pioneer could've just slightly narrowed the bezel with no problems. But I have a feeling it's kind of a combination-- they didn't sell enough, and those that did sell had some issues fitting into cases.

I still don't get why-- with the US market as big as it is-- there is no market for a higher end drive, when much smaller markets (Japan, parts of Europe) get the drive no problem..

I love my A07XL. I have had some weird experiences with Ebay, but an A11XL would be pretty cool to have.

Sorry.. I was wrong. the DVR-710 is a DVR-111D. It doesn't write to DVD-RAM.

As I've said in the past, American's are cheap asses. When it comes to optical drives and media, we really don't care about quality.
