High-Def Hardware Market Share - HD DVD Getting Spanked

Postby Ian on Wed Jan 23, 2008 12:02 am

The Digital Bits posted a few screen shots showing the market share for high-def hardware. The first one shows the market share for most of December and the first two weeks of January.

The second one shows the first two weeks in January. During the first week, HD DVD and Blu-ray are pretty much even. Then comes Warner's announcement and in the second week, HD DVD's market share has dropped down to only 7.47%.

It will be interesting to see what the sales are like now that Toshiba has cut their prices.

Having WB jumpping to the BR camp are we going to see real price drop in HD players, like Toshiba A3, A30, or A35?. When we are going to have HD player at the price range of $100 or less?.

Toshiba cut the prices of their players by about half last week. You can get the A3 for about $128 from Amazon.. which is pretty good considering it includes two movies in the box along with the 5 free via mail.

I supported no one last week, there were no new releases that interested me on either format.

The Digital Bits has posted the sales for the third week of January. As you can see, HD DVD has bounced back somewhat due to Toshiba's price cuts.
