Seriously, aztechya, what is so special about a three-year old, 8x burner that justifies a $45 price tag? I know there is some joker trying to get $100 for one of these used on Amazon, but really, is there something magic about this drive that I just don't get? Convince me, why should I pay $45 for this 3-year old, 8x drive with no warranty, no buffer underrun protection and outdated software when I could drive down to my local Staples and pick up a brand new 48x12x48 Lite-On drive with high-speed DAE, automatic optical power calibration and burning speed selection, buffer underrun protection, the latest Nero burning software and a 1-year warranty, all for only $40?

This drive has all kinds of magical powers!

It can conjure up demons and angels.

It can make things invisible.

It allows you to travel through time.

It will bring you wealth and fortune.

It can even pull a rabbit out of a hat!!!

It is also an internal drive. When I first saw aztechya offering it for $45, I thought it must be a SCSI and/or external drive. My surpise at finding out otherwise when I looked up its specifications is why I asked for elaboration.

aztechya wrote:This drive has all kinds of magical powers!

Okay, now I am interested. :) I wonder if the new 52x Lite-On has any special powers? Maybe we will see a new section in Ian's reviews: Magical Powers...

aztechya wrote:It can conjure up demons and angels.

When you put a WarCraft CD-ROM in it, I suppose?

aztechya wrote:It can make things invisible.

Like the unreadable files on CDR's burned by this drive (because the laser is old and feeble)

aztechya wrote:It allows you to travel through time.

Forward in time only, 1x speed. Heck, even my Yamaha can do that. Of course, since this thing only burns at 8x, perhaps it makes it seem like time is going by at 0.01x speed.

aztechya wrote:It will bring you wealth and fortune.

If you manage to find someone who will actually pay $45 for it.

aztechya wrote:It can even pull a rabbit out of a hat!!!

This one has me stumped. I guess this drive must have a super-powerful tray retraction motor. I'd like to see that!

(Just having fun now)

It only allows you to travel "forward" , not backwards so you can't buy last weeks winning lottery numbers with it.

Not trying to crap on your thread.

Is that $45 USD???

Seriously that price is kinda high.

What would be a more "fair market value" on it?

How about $10 to $15?

I searched on two price search engines: shopping.yahoo.com, pcmall.com and pricewatch and found respectively $229 and $58 ($49 plus $9 S/H).

I did mention this drive is in perfect shape. $45 w/ S/H sounds pretty good compared to $229.

Hmm... Well, I found someone trying to sell a Memorex 1622 (that would be a blazing 2x2x6 for those of you not keeping up with 3+ year old technology) for $78, shipping and handling included:

http://half.ebay.com/cat/buy/prod.cgi?c ... &meta_id=5

I guess it is time to rip my 1622 out of my old computer, undercut the price by $13 like you did, and offer it for sale here at the "bargain" price of $65.

Look, just because someone offers it for $229 doesn't mean it is worth $229 in a fair market. I doubt that there is anyone reading these forums who would be fooled by your deceptive price comparison, but just in case some newbie stumbles across your post and thinks he or she may be getting a bargain, let me unequivocally state: This drive is not worth $45, let alone $229.

I can't stop you from offering this drive for such a high price, but I can and will express my opinion of your offer. If you have honestly mis-priced this drive, then I suggest you change your offer to a more realistic price. If you are trying to take advantage of naive newbies, then shame on you.

Personally, I don't think I would even pay $5 for this drive, delivered. It is too old, lacking in features, and of unknown origin.

If anyone wants a really cheap drive, I suggest they skip this particular offer and head on over to the hot deals forum. There you can find at least three brand new drives, with warranties and modern features, selling for less than aztechya's drive:

24x10x40 - $9.99 at Circuit City
32x10x40 - $15.99 at Circuit City
48x12x48 - $39.99 at Staples

You are correct. The drive is not worth $45. I am not selling just the drive. The price includes shipping.

Thanks cfitz. Your selective sharing of information really makes you look good.

Thank you for your posts. You offer a lot of good information to this board.

Remember that the $45 is with shipping. So I am really selling the drive for about $35-40.

Oh, you are really selling the drive for $35, are you? If someone actually wanted to buy this drive, what would he write on his check? $35 or $45? So, tell me again, for how much are you selling this drive?

By the way, all those prices I listed for new drives also include shipping.

Sarcasm noted. Of course, for what it is worth, I don't want your thanks. I am happy to have potentially helped someone avoid being cheated out of his or her hard-earned money.

Aztechya, had you offered a fair price to begin with, I never would have posted to this thread and asked for clarification in the first place.

Had you offered a reasonable explanation for your asking price (it is a SCSI drive, it is an external drive, etc), I wouldn't have replied with my second post. Instead, you chose to reply flippantly.

Had you not tried to speciously justify your unreasonable price by quoting a hugely over-inflated price pulled from out of the Internet ether, I would not have clearly and unequivocally stated that your drive is not worth your asking price.

If I interfered with your plans to foist off an outdated drive at an inflated price to some unsuspecting consumer, I am not sorry.

If you don't like the way this thread turned out, you have no one but yourself to blame.

Well, Aztechya, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at this turn of events. With absolutely no sarcasm intended, I want to say that it was commendable of you to adjust your asking price to a more realistic number, and big of you to be decent about it.

I honestly do wish you well in your efforts to sell your drive at your new price of $25 with shipping, and will state that $25 is within the realm of reasonable prices for anyone who may be considering to take up Aztechya on his or her offer.

You wrote "CD-RW 32X" in the description, I hope the buyer didn't think the drive burns CD's at 32X; if he did then he is in for a shock.

LOL to whoever bought your 8X burner for $40. What a fool!

This can be considered as false advertisement. The buyer is gonna be in for a big shock when he finds out it reads at 32X, and writes at 1/4 that speed.
