Too bad. I assume, if it is an ASUS, that is based on the CRW-4816A, which didn't do very well in terms of writing quality in your tests:

Not everything was perfect. Even with the new firmware, the CRW-4816A's writing quality was not very good. Most of the CD's I burned had a lot of C1 errors. Some of these discs could not even be read back by the drive!

Do you know if they ever came out with yet another firmware upgrade that actually improved matters?

Still, it does look nice. The blue TDK tray never appealed to me much before, but the black case really sets it off nicely.
