Check if DMA is enabled on the drive. You can find the instructions for that in the FAQ section of these forums. If DMA is enabled, switch to PIO Mode and see if you still get same results. If PIO Mode is enabled, then switch the drive to DMA and then give it a try. I really am at a loss about your problem and can't think about anything else. Did you try different media?
