Probably because it doesn't think that the media supports it. Try another kind!

Nope. Put some media in the drive that you know works at 52x. And no, I can't tell you what kind does.

Hehe, put a pressed, non-copy protected disk in there like an AOL Installation CD or something...

You might want to get the latest version of InfoTool as well, so you can see all of the supported reading and writing speeds.

I tried an unbranded disc with new TY DX dye with this burner, still 48x max.

The ATIP is: 97:24:01.

Wrong... here's my results for LG52x24x52 ...

All TY Japanese made media ! Avrg/Max. writing :

24xFuji 36.93/48.54x

32xTDK 36.92/48.54x

48xMemorex 36.93/48.54x

48xFuji 36.92/48.53x

Lite-On 52x24x52 burned both 48x media @ 52x but did 32x media only @ 40x & 24 media only @ 16x

I believe RazOrX was referring to the maximum successful burn speed (no errors) with the Fuji/TY media in the LG GCE-8520B. He was not referring to a speed test.

And yes, I was "referring to the maximum successful burn speed" for the new TY discs.

I saw a Korean review on this drive (same model) but with firmware revision 1.03...

I have the same OEM drive and it works great! Reports 52X, Question? What are your system specs? This drive requires a minimum Pentium II 350mhz but 500mhz recommended! 128mb ram but 256mb in Win XP. Many drives will report slower max speeds on underpowered computers.

Advenger, are you saying the drive is allowing you to burn @ 52x max with TY discs? What is the firmware of your drive, 1.00 or newer?

I only have success 52x burning with one kind of disc that I have right now, Ritek.

My PC is AMD 1.2 with 768MB RAM, running XP.

Max burning speed

Postby Advenger on Sun Mar 02, 2003 10:27 am

No I have verion 1.0 of the firmware and Imation 48X disk burn at 48X but what I have seen in the past is someone buying a high speed cd burner and putting it in a slow computer, ingnoring the system requirments and then complaining about peformance! This dirve seems to be very picky about media! I would hope a firmware upgrade will help in the near furture.
