Backup firmware on AOpen drive

Postby CDRecorder on Thu Jul 31, 2003 1:33 pm

I have an AOpen 52x OEM drive, and I would like to update it to the latest firmware. Is there any way I could back up the original firmware first?

When I updated the firmware on my AOpen 32x drive (last year), I selected the "backup firmware" option in the flasher from AOpen's site, but it didn't work.

It depends on who the true manufacturer of the drive is. If it's a Ricoh like I assume your 32x was, then it helps to enable Windows 98/ME compatibility mode on the program when flashing if you want to make a backup.

OK. I'll try that. Thanks! :D

BTW, this drive has JustLink and flashes with RFlash, so I assume it's a Ricoh clone.

I tried it both with compatibility mode (98/me) on and with it off, and I got this message both times:

Cannot update for different Type Code.

*** NG ** NG ** NG ***

Make sure Selected Source File.

My drive is identified as: 52X24X52X CD-RW 1.04. I am trying to update to the 1.07 version of the firmware from AOpen's web site.

BTW, I know the drive is AOpen because it says so on top of the drive.

Edit: Corrected the version number of the firmware.

Maybe try some of the steps in this threadon rpc1.org. More useful information is at the end of the thread.

I tried the DOS flasher, but I couldn't see any "backup" option. I would really like to back up my existing firmware.

I finally got a chance to try the DOS flasher. The drive now has the 1.07 firmware installed.

The drive (now with firmware 1.07) seems to be working fine. :D

Thanks for the help!
