I would have bet my hat that they wouldn't honor it, especially
since MANY people on one of the Hot Deals forums bought it knowing there was a doubt about the rebates, but were going to fight it.
Good job to all those who got in and took a risk!!
Based on the huge number of orders placed and the fact that it is an extra $100 rebate per order, this is probably costing Dell a ton of money!
I have seen companies honor mistakes before, but with this one I was shocked; especially since many people knew deep down it was a screwup.
and that they would probably have to fight.
Dell has impressed me once again! i didn't get in on the HD deal, but I am impressed how they are handling it, since they were originally giving people the option to cancel orders, and honroing the 2nd rebate for the few orders that shipped before the mistake was caught or handled.
I wonder if they are honoring all of the 200 GB HD orders, or only those placed by a certain time, since they removed the mention of the second rebate from the product description within about 15 1/2 (I believe) hours of the deal first appearing.
At least I got a Circuit City 120 GB Western Digital 7200 RPM HD for just $10 + tax after rebates back in April
They had mistakenly advertised an extra rebate, which they gave as an
instant discount to those who ordered by a certain time...
It was different from the Dell deal, in that CC not only posted the price
as being $10 AR, but they posted three rebates for THREE DIFFERENT amounts, so they were different offers, unlike the Dell $100 overlapping rebate screwup.
Nobody could know it was a mistake.
With Dell most rebate veterans knew it was a mistake, even if some of them didn't admit it.
