Nero 6.3.0.0 DVD burning problem

Postby Vegitto on Fri Dec 26, 2003 12:39 am

Hello. Just the other day i noticed that nero released a newer version, so i upgraded it (I had 6.0.0.23). And then I was playing around with recode 2 and was ready to burn off a dvd. But when i went to burn it, nero just seemed to hang at the 'caching files' phase and would freeze...first time ive EVER had a problem with any nero version. So then i tried to burn a dvd iso image and unfortunetly the same thing occurred.

My dvd burner is a Pioneer DVR-105 which is connected through a USB external enclosure. Ive had buffer underrun problems with the burner in pretty much every program ive tried, resulting in half burned/bad dvdr's...but nero was the only program which seemed to burn dvd's for me correctly. And now, its not =\

Anyone know what could have caused this? The upgrade shouldnt have just made my burner unusable...it does work (and get buffer underruns) with other programs, but with the new nero, it just doesnt work for some reason. Id rather not revert back to my pervious version of nero 6, but if thats what has to be done to get dvds burned, then i guess it cannot be helped.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

First,if you have the time,go back to ver 6.0.0.23 and see if it works.
Second, try updating your firmware on that drive for safe measure.
Does ripping to the HD before you burn do O.K.?

All my burns are from ripped dvd files from the HD.

Ill try updating my firmware and see if that does any good. If not, i guess ill just go back to 6.0.0.23 and hopefully it will still work hehe =D

Hmm...well i d/led a firmware check tool from the pioneer website and it says:

"This firmware is already latest version.
This firmware does not need to be updated."

hmm...dang, i didnt really want to uninstall nero and then reinstall the older version >_< Ill try it tomorrow, i dont have the energy to do it tonight hehe

When you upgraded to nero 6,did you also add nero vision express with it(with Recode 2 the newest version)or are you still with the older version of Recode?

Try the uninstall and see.
Sounds like that particular burner has problems with every app it tries to work with.
Have you tried DVD Region Free with CloneDVD 1.3.9.8?It does pretty well to.Same kind of interphase and simple to use.

Also check to see if DMA is enabled.

Nero 6.3 is buggy - I've had it hang at 99% or 98% about a dozen times; which is really nice when I'm burning a DVD - those things aren't cheap!

I went back to 5.5x under Windows. But for now, I'm sticking to K3b for all my burning.

Well, I uninstalled the new nero packs and reverted back to my previoius versions and it seems to burn dvds with no problem once again. So am i just to assume that the newest nero has a bug that just seems to conflict with my burner?

Tis a shame too, cuz i wanted to use recode 2, and a bunch of the newer features included in the powerpack =\

Well, Nero doesn't crash ALL the time-but enough to be annoying.

As for the burn speed, I usually use 4x for data discs, and 8x for video (w/TDK media, 4x for Verbatiums). So far, it's only crashed when burning CD's or DVD-R's-not with DVD+R's. Cd's I burn at 40x on my Optorite, and 52x on my Lite-On. All my CD's are TY's, so they can handle it :)

K3b is a free, Nero-like CD/DVD burning program-it's also Linux only.
I finally gave up totally on Windows today. It just keeps corrupting my HDD's and losing data. Plus the crashs. I'm sick of it. No more dual booting. Just Mandrake 9.2 from here on out.

Yeah I've learned to use Nero 6.3 at 2.4x and 4x respectively.I thought I was doing well with at 8x with memorex like plextor stated it could handle, but I had bad spots in all my dvd's rip't at 8x.Found out later that other people were having probs with memorex(Ricoh)DVD+R's at 8x also.I can't afford Verbatim's so I stick with Memorex at slower speeds.I haven't had any errors at 4x and anyways,I'm in no hurry.
I stick with windows for it's familiarity. It's simple and I don't have any important stuff on here anyway.I lost my 80 GB Wd HD back in August and all I said was "Oh Well".This pc is for burnin' and surfin',that's it!!! :P
