nu dual firmware is out

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Postby Tazan007 on Thu Jan 01, 2004 7:34 pm

Ian, they added 24x cdrw writing with the new bx30 firmware, the old one only did 10x cdrw. I was just hoping you would update the review with the new results to see if the new 24x cdrw writing strategy is good/stable.

Odd.. when I talked to them they said they weren't going to do that. I'm glad they did. I might check it out, but I'm pretty busy these days. No promises.

BX30

Postby BoogieBlues on Fri Jan 02, 2004 10:53 am

I just flashed my DDW-081 with BX30 off the Nu tech web site...about the 4th flash I have done from their site...all went perfect...have seen nothing of the Dual write 360 on the Nu site...when it comes up on thier site I will try it...As it is now with the bit setting working and being able to buy +R media that I can burn at 8X for around a buck a piece see no good reason to screw up a good thing...but as it looks now with the dual around the corner and MT.Ranier coming soon...I think I bought a Heck of a good Unit for $139....Its all working great on mine...And I like the way Nu Tech has kept their promises and keep trying to make it a better unit..Big John

Dual Firmware can be reversed now

Postby Tornado on Fri Jan 02, 2004 2:08 pm

Looks as though the dual firmware can be reversed now.
This file is now available:
http://www.computerdiy.com.tw/modules/m ... id=2&lid=7

I have tried this on mine and it worked. I am now back to DDW-081 BX30.
After changing back, I have burned 1 DVD+R (CMC) at 8x and it came out fine. Scanned it for errors in DVDInfoPro and no errors found.

Ian, thanks.

Glad about that BX30 that will flash the b360, it still locks up my computer after the flash but at least it flashed it.

Thanks for the link

yup, was able to go back to the bx30 with that modified one.... but still not able to goto any other firmware... including the b360...

I did notice that my read speeds were much much better when it was at b360. I wouldn't mind getting that aspect back!

The RAR file also contains a BX30 firmware update so you can flash it back to single format if you want.

Well, I gave in and bought a Liteon so I can do the PI/PO scans on the burned media. I have the NuTech and the Liteon 811S and using Kprobe, the NuTech consistently has lower PI and PO errors no matter which speed read speed I use on the test with the Liteon. The NuTech has far better write quality and they seem to have fixed the spike when it changes speeds at 6x to 8x. Can someone else confirm no spikes with the bx30 pro firmware? Also, has anyone tried the new DUAL format firmware? I hope it works well and hopefully it does not reduce the burn quality of the +R format as it did with the b360 firmware.

If you want to see any of the Kprobe scans, let me know.

New firmware

Postby jagercola on Wed Jan 14, 2004 5:21 pm

I hope someone can confirm that there is no more spike in errors when it shifts from 6x to 8x. I've been burning in 6x to avoid them. I'm using the BX30 pro (whatever was available on the website last week). Also, anyone ever had green dots appear while watching a movie? I couldn't figure out if it was the media, the burn speed, or if I opened some resource hog while burning.

Hi Guys, I am new here and wanted to say hi!!!! :D

For Christmas I recieved a NU DDW-081 DVD burner, and as soon as I got it I updated to the BX06 firmware. I have had great success burning +R media, but I was told that a firmware update would be coming that would allow the machine to burn -R media (which seems to be more avialable and usualy less exspensive then the +R media???).

Anyway, I have visted NUTECH's site and I don't know about anyone else but I can't read anything on the page??? Perhaps I don't have one of my language settings correct, but it looks like it is encrypted? Does anyone else have this problem????

From what I can tell there atlest 3 updates, a B360 (which I think gives me the Dual format , +R, and -R), BX30 not to be mistaken as I did for the BX03 firmware update that came with my machine out of the box, and apparently a newer BX30 PRO version?

I am hoping someone can put me straight, as the NuTech site is woefully short on both instructions and details!

What update does what? Which update should I install first? Does the Dual format firware work? Has anyone tried it? Should I update now, or is another fix coming?????

Please Help!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Hey....I would Upgrade to the BX30Pro...and download the Bit rate utility setting for right now.....Iam using both of them with no problems...With the Bit rate utility working I can see no reason to upgrade to the Nu_Dual_Firmware until it is known to be bug free....Big John

What does the bitrate Utility do? Are any of the advances that are in BX30 pro in B360?

I have had no problems burning +R media with the firmware that I was using which was BX06.........but I have been wanting to try burning -R media, as it always seems to be on sale, when compared with +R media.

Nutech's information is brutal, they don't do a very good job of lettiing their customers know what the updates do or for that matter, what they DON'T do!!!

Any information that you have would be helpful.
Thanks.

I tried the unofficial b360 when it was first released, not the one posted on their own website right now and that firmware sucked for +R for me. It had worse write quality for +R and it wouldn't burn on my 2x certified verbatim datalife dvd-r's. Anyways, I just burned a data disc on 2.4x CMC DVD+R, stay away from these, the NuTech drive has horrible write quality on them, Kprobe had an average PI of over 124 which is horrible. I'm burning on the same DVD+R media with my Liteon 811S to see if it does any better, but I need to get to bed so I will scan the DVD+R when I get up in the morning.

well, I couldn't wait until morning. It seems the liteon drives have problems reading CMC media in general and they are horrible at writing to CMC media. The 2.4X CMC DVD+R was burned with the same data as the Nutech, here are the results for the short scan I did,

Liteon burned 2.4x CMC DVD+R
-Avg PI >800
-Avg PO >5

NuTech burned 2.4x CMC DVD+R
-Avg PI >124
-Avg PO >0.1

So either the Liteon drive has bad results when reading CMC disks or both of the drives are horrible at writing on CMC dye. But the Liteon 811S still has far worse write quality. At this point I am glad I got the Nutech. I may get brave enough to test out the new dual format firmware and see if it will burn on my Verbatim 2x DVD-R's. Will report back in a few days.

Well profesional tests prooved the same. While Nutech 8x burner came with quite decent 4x burning out of the box and quite good support for ricoh 4x @8x media. The Lite On 811S didn't performed that well.
Now newer firmwares have improved both drives and Lite On is closing th gap again. Still why do Lite On dvd burners allways need a firmware of 3 or more to get close to the competition.
Still the Nutech drive is ahead from the Lite On 811s.

The problem here is the CMC 2.4x media. Now there 4x media has improved much still the drive has to support it.
And at this time I can say Lite On 811S and CMC don't work together.
(Pioneer a06 and the same media show a ussable result so it's not the media but more the fact that CMC is bad optimised by Lite On.
On one hand this is fair. If time is limited a lot of other media needs still to be optimised I would prefer to spend the time on quality 8x media and not on CMC's 4x media. Still they could have done a bit more support befor releasing it.

About Nutech DVD-R support let's see what's recommended.
Nunuverse site
1.Memorex DVD-R

2.MCC DVD-R

3.TAIYO-YUDEN DVD-R

4.CMC DVD-R

What is Memorex DVD-R ? - I thought Memorex just bought media from a lot of factories so may we expect that it works from these factory's as long as it says Memorex or have Nutech screwed up on this one.

The other 3 are just all MKM AZO based media. Not a surprise that they got all 3 listed. Now let's hope that they gave CMC a fair change.

Hm, so are you saying that all CMC DVD-R media is MKM AZO based media? Or did CMC just switch over to MKM AZO based media?

Thanks
