Experiences with FW BX30pro up to B362

Postby fairlane on Thu Feb 05, 2004 10:59 am

Hello,

I found this forum and especially this topic very helpful and so I want to tell you my experiences with the DDW-081.

I ordered the DDW-081 at Amazon.com after the good report about it in ct-magazine.
I directly installed the Dual-FW (B360), even if I do not have any -R DVD-ROMs. Just wanted to be up2date ;-)

I used the following disks:
Ricoh 4x +R (RICOHJPNR)
Verbatim Advanced AZO 4x +R (MCC 002)
Sony 4x +R (MCC 002)
TDK 4x +R (MCC 002)

Burning with 4x went very well, but in opposite to many articles on the net I was unable to burn the MCC media with 8x. I am using Nero 6.3.0.3.
Another bug is, that Nero is not able to verify the data after burning it to DVD. Nero always reports file access errors. A check with DVDinfoPro or Nero CD-DVD Speed (ScanDisk) was ok, and the media played without errors, so there must be a problem with this verifying directly after burning.

I saw that a new FW (B361) was out and flashed this one, no cure.

I found FW B362 a bit later and flashed this one, verifying still does not work and burning with 4x also fails very often.

After reading this forum I decided to flash BX30pro, which I never used before cause I thought it was outdated. Now everything works pretty smart.
I can burn all the above mentioned media with 8x and they are perfectly fine. Only the verification error with Nero persists.

So for me it is more important to burn fast and reliable instead of getting the cheapest media. I can only recommend to use BX30pro and +R Media.

Regards,

Sorry,

the ID of the TDK was RICOHNRJP, not MCC 002

Yea, I have been having the same problem with 362. It won't even burn DVD+R media for me. It gives write error as soon as I click on burn in Nero. I'm going back to bx30pro, at least I could burn something with it. I can't even burn a regular CDR with 362. It's ridiculous.

Couldn't fooled me. Nu Global's and Nu Universe's websites are very similar.

Ciryadin, do you have a change log for this latest firmware update?

new release date but still old firmware number :o

This isn't a new firmware update. It's the same one that joku posted a link to on 1/30. The file dates in the zip file are from 1/30 as well.

OK, so has anybody had any luck...

Postby nopcbs on Sat Feb 14, 2004 1:20 pm

...burning -R or -RW disks with this thing after all the updates?

I tried 2x Imation -R's with no luck.

Works fine with Memorex and Imation 4x +R media at 8x, though.

I have tried the new firmware with Memorex DVD-R with no luck. I have also tried Memorex DVD+R and they did not turn out too well, DVD freezes when trying to skip chapters. DVD+RW works flawlessly. I am using DVD X Copy. Any suggestions on how to get it to copy better or suggestions on a different media to try?

You may want to run dvdidentifier or another program to find out who the manufacturer of the discs you have is and then post it on here for further comments on that disc. Generally I get the best results with MCC or TY with this drive at 8x speeds. For Ricoh 4x media I use 4x burning since it gives the lowest errors and better write quality. The Ricoh 4x media can be burned at 8x but has spikes at two places where the error rate is high.

Kreber

Hi Kreber
This is what thru trial and error I have found that works for me....For now I only use Memorex +R and +RW....WHY?...Because I can get the +R for about $1.00 a disc....and they work perfect for me in my set up at 4X and 8X....if I could get TY media at this price I would probably use them Iam a big TY fan...My setup is pent.1.9....512DDR memory...100 gig 7,200 rpm hard drive...Before I get too far there are three critical things you have to do before you even start to burn DVD's...CRITICAL!!!....Make sure you are running in the highest DMA mode that your machine will support Mine runs Ultra 4 DMA Mode...if your in PIO mode your screwed to doom....Second...right before you work on DVD's...DEFRAG your machine...this realy helps....third...make sure all other tasks are closed down....you need all your power to work eith Digital video...Now your ready to make DVD's.....For copying movies and DVD concerts first I use DVD Decrypter(its free ware)...it works great...after I run it thru that I use Clone DVD....WHY Clone DVD?....Because its Simple to use and makes perfect copies with all the chapters and menues...and even copies concerts in all audio formats available on the disc(gives you the choice of playing back in Surrond sound, Dolby 5.1 or DTS...The Memorex +R burn at 4X or 8X with no problems...I dont know about spikes and all that stuff but they look..sound and play as good as the originals...My son bought me a 5 pack of Memorex +RW for Christmas It says on DVD info that they are 2.4X but they burn at 4X.....
For home video's from my dvd camcorders Kids at the Park ect. I use Sonic my DVD that came with the unit...Simple easy to use...No problems now....When I first used it I didnt have DMA mode right dropped frames everywhere...Follow first three rules works great...
If Iam doing Music Videos of my band I use Adobe Premiere 6.0...Its kinda compicated but gives me great flexability with the Audio and everything else can synch my pc with my Roland 16 trac recorder and adobe..
As far as the DVD-R program I can realy see no reason to use it eveyone seems to have problems with it...and +R have come way down in price...I have a friend I will make copies of music videos for his old machine wont play +R so i just use the bit change utility..
I would like to see NU come thru with their Mt Rainer program more than the -R deal.....DO YOU HEAR ME NU!!!!!
Hope this helps you out Kreber.......BIG JOHN

P.S. Thanks for all the other people that have posted here that helped me figure all this stuff out

BoogieBlues: Thanks for the help. I went back to the old firmware and defraged my drive. I just bought a new 3200 amd w/1 gig of ram so I figured the system wouldnt be the problem. The DVD+R I just burned workes flawlessly.

There is a new thread above for the newest version of the Nutech Dual Firmware.........I have cut and pasted my comments:

I have a question....I was using DVD shrink 3.14 to burn a backup of a DVD with Nutech's latest firmware (364) and a Memorex 4X DVD-R and it would not burn. I am using Nero 6.0 Ultra Edition......is it possible that Nero doesn't know that the the Nutech burner can burn minus media, or is there a known "issue" with this version of the software?

Any ideas??????

I found my problem.....there was an "issue" between Nero 6.0 Ultra and the Nutech firmware. I unistalled Nero 6.0 rebooted my computer and installed Nero 6.3 and sucessfuly burned my first minus media using DVD Shrink!!!!

I used a Memorex DVD-R and it burned perfectly at 4X......if anyone out there is having problems check which version of Nero you are using.

Well, it looks like I know have a kickass Dual format Burner!!!

Postby gregdep on Sat Feb 28, 2004 12:49 am

now if this drive will be firmware updated to dual layer.. i will be estatic....

afterdawn.com says philips will be offering a firmware upgrade for some of their current drives.....

don't i rememeber hearing that our nu-tech drives are related to philips somehow? and if not, if it's possible for their drives, I imagine it will be still possible for ours...

The standard answer is Nu Tech 081 uses a Philips chip set called the nexperia (or something like that) and even if this is the chip set is one that can be upgrade to dual layer, that doesn't mean the 081 has all the components in it to be firmware upgradeable to dual layer.

I have also been hoping to see The -081/082 get the added ability to read and burn the DVD RAM format??????

Has anyone heard anything in this regard???

PS.......I have now burned 5 Memorex DVD-Rs(4X).....all turned out perfect!!!!

Does anyone know if Maxell DVD-R (4X) will work with the new firmware????

Princo and Traxdata -R works also, beside that +R at 8x speed do work :)

Seems to be that this f/w-364 works quit good, still testig and give more results soon.

Realy, it looks Nu Tech got a serious F/W with the 364 that works well!

Burn baby burn. Now waithing for MT Rainier.

Use: Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 and Nero 6.3.0.3
