News of CD-R/CD-RW Drives

Just got a Mitsumi CR-480ATE (32x12x40x) for Christmas. This is my first CDRW. Installed it yesterday as Secondary IDE Master (my regular CD ROM is a Samung and I switched that over to Secondary Slave). Turned it on and it appeared as D: with the CD ROM moving to E:. I installed the OEM version of NERO by using the CDRW and it had no problem opening it and running it. However when ...

i heard a rumor that if u continuously burn at 40x on a 40x burner that it is not good for the laser and should burn at a slower speed. is this true? :lol:

:o My parents bought me a new Cendyne 48x12x48 drive... which I have heard many good things about for it being a Lite-On and with rebates come out to like $20.... but the sad part is when opened it wasnt the Lite-On... it was the other crappy Optorite (CW 4802). I found this web-site that did a really good job of explaining CD Technology such as CD-R, CD-RW, Mini-CD, Disc T@2 feature, and etc. It has some nice pictures and guides to help define what each part on the CD means or does.

im was thinking of getting an external cr-rw as my case is too small to fit an internal in, however having looked at a few it looks like i need to have USB 2.0 for it to be worth bothering...
does anyone know how i can find out if i have it already or will i have to buy it as a pci card..
