News of CD-R/CD-RW Drives

Well, my Lite-On 52327s has started playing (tray doesn't always open etc..), so I guess it is on it's way out.

What I am wondering is whether I should bother getting another CDRW drive, and if I do, which one.

I wonder whether the ATAPI driver is a standard, we had some old machine with CD-Writer (Plextor PX-W4012TA), the writer refuse to work properly, we replaced it with Lite-On's, however, the recovery CD refuse to work properly giving an error of ATAPI device not found...

Any idea how I can find a CD that's very similar to Plextor's PX-W4012TA?

Can someone tell me what files PKengine358.exe will update?
I hate installing program updates without knowing what is going to be updated.

Using Windows Explorer I can write several folders with multiple
subfolders and get a sucessful back up. But then when I try to
update this cd by copying individual files, some files will copy correctly.
but then one file size may be wrong or data may be incorrect, with no indication that an error has occured.
QVerify program reports the error has occured.
Not only is the file that was copied wrong but another file ...

sometimes (but not always i think) when i do a CDSpeed Quality Test on my Lite-On LTR-52327S, the start of the scan gets a really huge spike, basically rendering the scan useless (you can't see anything else because of the scale). i think this happens if i scan right after i first put the CD in the drive.

if i stop the scan and start a new one everything is fine.

I usually buy Verbatim media, because I've had good luck with it. However, this past 100-spindle has been really subpar for me. It burns okay in my NEC 3500A, but I've had issues with playing back (both audio and MP3 data) in my car, and I've had errors burning with other drives (a Plextor 12/10/32 SCSI yesterday, but also with some Yamaha CDRW's). My Liteon CD-RW Drive LTR-48246S either does not recognize its own disks for playback or it skips repeatedly during playback. Unit is about 2 1/2 years old and hasnt copied more then 25 cd's

1- Is it dead? I completely reformatted and reinstalled all programs on my PC using Win 98SE. Liteon will not respond to my email.

When I audition the tracks by clicking the play arrow in the EAC track window, the sound is all out of phase and tinny. Is there a playback or audio output option that I don't know about? The ripped audio sounds fine, it's just the audio for auditioning the tracks that sounds weird.
