News of CD-R/CD-RW Drives

Picked up a Pine External CD-RW USB 2.0 drive today. Impressed so far.

Inside, the actual drive is a Mitsumi CR-487ETE 52x24x52x 2003/03.
The face of the drive is silver, to match the case.

Using some Memorex 48x media, burned very nice.. no dips in speed or anything. Nero Speed tests it nice.

Whats the Difrenence beatwen LG GCE-8524B and GCE-8525B. There are both 52x32x52x. Can I flash 8525B firmware in 8524B model?

I'm about to get a nice thin IBM X31 laptop, and I'm now looking for a bus powered, USB 2.0, portable CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, preferably around 24/12/24/8 speeds. I know I could get the media slice and combo drive for the laptop, but that adds a lot of weight and space.

The Asus SCB-2408-D would have been perfect, but the review said it's not bus powered. Here are some drives I've found, and ...

Best Buy Canada has it on for $99 after mir, and I happen to be in the market for a new internal burner for my surfing machine, and an external USB box for my DVD burner.. so this kills two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Love this website!!! I have a PowerComputing PowerCenter 150 running Mac OS 8.6. I just got a QPS Que! USB CD-RW Drive. Unfortunately, I don't have the CD that came with it -- so no drivers or Toast. Any idea where I might be able to get them? I tried the QPS (now owned by DPS) website but didn't have any luck.

I bought a cendyne lightning V drive a while back and now I want to update the firmware.

problem is when i do a speed test in nero it says i can only burn at 16x...that's not right is it???i am using mp3s on my hdd and putting them on cd-r so it aint got nothing to do with my cd-rom.

The only drive I've come across so far which fits the bill is Sony's CRX85U. However it retails for nearly $300 (even though it's more than a couple years old). I need something in the $50-$100 price range. Does such a drive even extist? USB would be preferable...
