NEC DVD ROM drives

When I finally build my new PC I am planning to install a DVD-ROM drive in it (black). Just like to know if anybody has had any experience with NEC DVD-ROM drives and if so how do you compare them to other brands. Also in terms of quietness as well.

EAC drive offset confusion

Can someone make sense of this for me. I got the correct read offset for my burner (+6) from accuraterip.com, but I don't know where to enter it. Some "manual" say put it in the read offset box, but others say that if you use another program othan EAC to write then you should use combined read/write offset. So do I put the +6 in that box? Still another said that I need to switch ...

I am looking for a drive that has easy/no hassle region changing ability so I can play discs from Regions 1, 2 and 4.

What's a good drive that will allow me ...

Pioneer dvd-106/s ejects movies

Hi all,

Recently, my Pioneer dvd-106/s has stopped playing movies. When I insert a disc, the lights flash but the drive doesn't spin up, it just ejects the disc. It reads dvd games fine for some reason.

I have just reinstalled Windows XP Pro and two games, F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 2, both on dvd. The drive was working fine until I installed these games.

Could this be related to the copy protection used ...

X-Box 360 inside

http://anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2610&p=11

Here you could see that it uses a DVD-drive from LG with S-ATA.

Again I wonder why the drive manufacturers don´t bring drives with S-ATa to the retail market.
