How fast is too fast?

No audio on DVD playback

Drive: Toshiba SD-R1612
I received some DVDs that this drive will not play the audio, the video is OK. Also I don't have a problem, with audio, playing other DVDs, like Grease.

The DVD is DL, Version 1, OTP, NTSC 4:3 Mpeg2 per Nero Tool

I made a backup copy w/DVD Shrink onto a Verbatim DVD+R, it also will not play the audio.

Mother BD is Abit NF-7Sv2, sound works for everything else.
I have ...

DVD ROM not reading, recognizing or playing burned CD-R's.

I'm about to throw my PC out the window, so...I'm hoping someone can shed some light.

I have a 2 month old Dell Dimension 9100. It has an HL-DT-ST DVD/CD ROM GDR8163B in Drive D and a Philips DVD+/- RW DVD 8631 in Drive E.

My problem at this point is NOT with the Philips Burner, it's with the ROM Drive. The ROM Drive will recognize and play almost everything without a problem: Purchased DVDs, ...

Well, it seems when using EAC (latest version), the Asus may be better at ripping the music off bad CD-Rs (labelled and maybe some scratches) when using detected error-correction settings. I usually ...

LiteOn SOHD 167T Safe maximum speed?

I have this drive and I am rather tired of it ripping a DVD9 dual layer movie at what looks like an average of 3x. Currently using the latest OEM firmware and I am aware that there are faster firmware's out there for different read speeds, but what should be a safe maximum speed for this drive?
