OK, with the number of DVD recordable posts coming in, we've split the DVD sectioin of the forum into "DVD Recordable" and "DVD-ROM". I've moved some of the newer DVD-ROM oriented posts over to the new section, but there are still a number in the DVD Recordble section.

I traded my lite-on 163D for the 166S and have so far regretted it greatly. The 163D used to rip dvds very very fast. While the 166S doesn't go above 6x or so (instead of the 8-12x I used to seeing on dual layer dvd disks).

Is this inherent to the 166S. If so, is this a firmware oimitation on encrypted disks. I rip using dvd decryptor and a 7.5GB disk ...

For all 163 drives which are being refused by the latest official Jlms(Liteon) firmware.
They include rebadged and OEM drives (i.e. Dell, Fujitsu, 4Kus, Sony and many others).
Also all original (old) Liteon with GVxx firmware.
I just posted a fixed version of GH5S: GH5S_all.
It's fixed by an unpublished special version of FlashFix (thanks Dale!)
It means that the actual firmware has not been touched, only the drive/version preflash checkup is bypassed.

Just to note: This is not for ripping illegal copies of a DVD-Audio. It is mine, I just want to know how to rip it to play off of my Hard Drive.

Does anyone know of a program or a method to rip DVD-Audio tracks (*.AOB files) for playback off of the hard drive?

I downloaded the latest firmware for this drive, LG 8161B, and the readme is in Korean I believe. Anyone know what the exact command line parameters are?

My drive is on IDE 1, and is slave to my hard drive.

I could not find help ANYWHERE online for this drive, hopefully someone here can crack this and make it work under XP, it works just fine under 98, linux, and everything except XP, not even Nakamichi tech support was any help, I have the IDE version and Nakamichi's update page was useless for me. I know some of the guys here are handy at cracking stuff like this, hell Ill buy anyone who figures this ...
