News of DVD Writers

Bought the 710A in the fall shortly after release. Had a DRU500A from shortly after launch, and had been very pleased with it. Lately I have been getting burn errors using Nero - mostly that it cannot finish disc write at once. I notice that when looking at the burned side of the disc, there are 1 or more 'skips' in the recording surface - almost as if the laser jumps while writing.

I was told that some markers R not safe/good and just wondering what would be a safe bet?

I already got a Sony burner for my P4 and I ave an old PII 233 which only has a CD-Rom, so if I am to get a new DVD burner and install it in my old PC just for reading burned DVD data files, will it work? (I am NOT going to install any Nero softwares or use it for burning) Thanks for your help.

The German news site heise has an item about the coming 2-layer Blu-Ray recorder from BenQ/Philips. They showed a prototype at the CeBIT. The OPU apparently has a single lens for all 3 required lasers. It will read and write Blu-Ray (up to 50 GiB), DVDs and CDs. i just got the NEC 3500 AND OPTODISCS 8X dvd+r unbranded in the mail today and as soon as i got in the house, i couldn't wait to test it. my reaction was WOW! They burned at 12x and the error rates were awesome.

can this program be use to burn dual layers dvd+r? i have a pioneer 108 and i know it can handle dual layer media but im not sure if the program has to be compatible. i want to make a backup of GT4 for ps2.
