News of DVD Writers

I see memorex 25 pack DVD+R for 29.99 @ Amazon with a 1 to 2 weeks shipping. CompUSA has 40% off all memorex brand media (with coupon from ad) which I beileve would make the price around $34 for a DVD+R 25 pack. A ~$1.30 a disc is not bad, I guess I was just wondering if anybody has found anything better.

I'm probably still used to paying for CD-R's ...

Dell has the Lite-on LDW-401S in stock for $103.46 and the Plextor 708A in stock for $218.66. Both have free shipping and no sales tax in most states. Things are sure looking good. :D

Has anyone noticed this? When using the PX-708A and the 1.01 firmware, I'm unable to burn at 4x or 8x, the drive either does 3.9x or 7.9x. WTF!!?

Anyone burning off shared Winblows drives over a 100bT LAN? I am out of IDE connectors and need to ROM readers on a file server and a burner on another machine to archive off the file server. Anyone have any advice? Given a healthy private home network with no traffic over it, is it doable?

I am not sure if I am missing the point, but I have read several
times where members complain about a drive having a 2 meg rather
than 8meg buffer. However, what puzzles me is: what difference does
it make. When writting a DVD at 4X you are pushing data through the
bus at about 6 - 7 meg a second. If you get a buffer underun the buffer
will be cleared in a second ...

Hi,

For the very first time, (after about 10 failures) I have succeeded, in straight-off, copying a DVD movie to a disc on my Plextor 708A.

I failed to burn to Ricoh 2.4x DVD +R, or Ricoh 4x +R, using Nero 6.0.0.15, 6.0.0.11, and 5.5.10.45.

Today I used the cheapest 4x DVD -R discs I could find on the Net, I think they are Princo, re-installed Nero 6.0.0.15, and the update patch, used the settings ...

I just installed my new Plextor 708A and it works fine with Nero & Windows (reading), but it's not seen by Plextools, CDVDinfo & ISObuster.
It's configured in BIOS and I have Nforce2 Asus MB.
Does someone have the same problem? What can I do?
