OK...there is £1 difference between the drives. What is better in terms of features/compatability etc? The 165 vs the 166S? Help needed ASAP!

I am in the process of placing an order for a Sony DRU-500A. I want the drive mainly for backing up a lot of data. I would also like to be able to make DVD movie backups to play in my Pioneer DV-C503 5disc changer. The only problem I have is what media to buy. I have been reading a lot about specific brands of media causing problems like Verbatim and Memorex.

Is there a resource somewhere that I can check my DVD-ROM's against to see if they will read DVD+R or DVD-R media once I've burned it?

I have quite a bit of data that I want to archive off-disk, and DVD seems to be a great solution.

The problem is, I've got 3 different DVD-ROM's in my office, and two co-workers have different DVD-ROM's at their home-office.

I'd like to find a solution that's compatible ...

Now that I have one of my DRU-500As (the other just shipped yesterday, so I will return one of the two still sealed, since I don't need both), I wanted to get some 4X DVD-R media.

ok I got this drive 3 days ago.. at first I was very dissapointed as nothign seemed to work apart from the sony DVD+RW that came with the drive. Hi, I burn Princo Media (DVR) at 1X with Pioneer A04, but I cannot read it on my notebook with UDJA710 drive (DVD-ROM) and on Creative PC-DVD (8X), but reads fine on Pioneer.

Using original media supplied with A04 (DVD RW) works fine on UDJA710.

Somebody have been the same problem? Is there a patch on UDJA to correct this problem?

what are the differences between
SD-616F
SD-616T
SD-616Q
They seem to boast the same features and such but there are subtle diffences in the prices and sometimes the letter to follow eg(SD-616FEP and SD-616T EPB)
