I'm trying to build a modest system for my retired father to use.

Intel Celeron 340 2.93Ghz 533FSB Socket 478
DDR400 ram 512mb (Ultra brand) 1 chip. Dual Channel set up is not needed.

Intel D865PERL motherboard.

I've stipped it down to bare CPU + RAM but I can not get this thing to POST. The lights all come on, fans spin, SATA drive spins up, but no POST. No display as a result.

I recently have the pc shop instalated a Plextor PX-716a and now i found out thru Plextools Professional that my PX has been instalated as slave unit and the cd rom as the master.

Is this correct?
If this is wrong what are the improvements when changed.

My system is XP sp2 and i have 2 seperate hdd with a raid.

I often meet a problem. After pressing my start-uop button, it can't show me the regular image. Only black screen. Why? someone tell me that is a memory problem. I'm a newbie. How can I distinguish the good and bad one, just waiting till it get broken? Can you give me some a suggestion?

If I get this problem, how to get rid of it?

Does anyone have recommendation for an Intel Pentium D 830 non stock cooler :?:

The stock cooler at approximately 4000RPM is noisy, At load, it is no less than 60 degrees celsius. Can't exactly boil water at that temperature! :lol:

Perhaps it's also the 4 case fans (3 x ADDA Model AD0812LB-A70GL, 1 x Thermaltake Smart Case Fan 2, A1357)

When my HDD (Seagate ST31200) is coupled with a cd or dvd drive, it develops terrible problems. I finally worked out that part of the problem is the XP downgrading my Primary IDE channel issue, and got the fix for that from this forum. On deleting my Primary IDE channel my HDD is back up to speed ... for a very short time.

It doesn't take long for the downgrading to occur again. Whats more, ...

in the second you see what my system used to be like. there's the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels of the motherboard, Silicon Image Sil 3112 SataRAID Controller (built into the motherboard) and Silicone Image Sil 0680 ATA-RAID controller on a PCI card.

however in the first pic there's something new - D347PRT SCSI Controller (it shows up in device manager too).
i've no idea what this is ...

I have a 17" Samsung Syncmaster 793DF that I bought this May.
Red horizontal lines are constantly appearing and I don't know what it is.
It first started happening about a month after I bought it, and it appears near the right side of the screen. By tilting the whole monitor left (lifting the right side), the lines would disappear. But lately it's been happening frequently and gets so bad that I can't even read ...

What do you guys think is the best way to clean off an LCD screen so that it looks good as new? Like a solution or something that'll really do wonders, and not damage it.

Anyone know of anything?

I'm referring to small LCD screens like on a PSP or BlackBerry, etc.
