Questions HDDs

Is it possible to prevent the demagnetization of HDDs or is the demagnetization of HDDs an inevitable phenomenon caused by storage conditions (humidity and temperature of my room storage)?
I store the 2.5" laptop HDDs + USB3.0 enclosure inside the original cardboard boxes and inside the cabinet drawer, but next to the cabinet there is a 29" CRT TV with a speaker and in the drawer above the drawer where the HDDs are, there are ...

RIP Plextor

Kioxia has killed off yet another brand. This time around, it's Plextor. From hkepc:

After receiving a notice from the agent, PLEXTOR announced that it will no longer launch SSD products. For PLEXTOR SSD products that are still under warranty, the RMA service will be fully transferred to "Lite Storage" on January 1, 2024.

PCIe 4.0 SSDs, CPU Cores And Random Read/Write Performance

Something I've been thinking a lot about lately (yeah, I lead a boring life  ) is how the number of CPU cores and threads impacts the random read/write performance of PCIe 4.0 SSDs. With SATA and PCIe 3.0 SSDs, you could easily max out a drive's random read/write performance using a CPU with 4 cores (or 8 threads). With many of the newer PCIe 4.0 SSDs, ...

Innogrit Rainier IG5236 vs PHISON E18

It's been nearly a year since Innogrit first showed off its Rainier IG5236. The company has been pretty quiet since then but it's finally here in the form of the ADATA XPG Gammix S70. Here's a quick comparison with the PHISON E18.

Intel discontinuing the 545s SSD

anybody know what's up with Intel discontinuing the 545s line of solid state drives? Can't even download the "data migration" software anymore.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/products/80098/memory-and-storage/ssd-software/intel-data-migration-software.html

The Intel® Data Migration Software has reached End of Life and is no longer supported through Phone, Chat, or Online Service Requests.
Self Help will continue to be available until December 31, 2020.

I still have a couple of these drives in use.
Fortunately they are not my main drives.

Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD Specs

Samsung has updated its website to include some info on its upcoming 980 PRO SSD. Thanks to its support for PCIe 4.0, it looks like it will be able to read at 7,000 MB/s and write at 5,000 MB/s. It's also capable of 1,000K (yes, a million!) IOPS.

Just want to say "Thanks" :)

Hello Ian!

After a long time I take a look at your SSD-reviews and I´m very glad because of the reviews you made :)

Especially the HD Tach tests with sequential write is very important for me. Many reviewers only use some benchmarks like AS SSD and Crystal Disk Mark which were made in the SLC-cache of the drives.

For some purposes I need some SSD which ...

Toshiba To Buy Lite-On's Storage Division?

Interesting news.. Makes you wonder what the future will be for Plextor.

Toshiba, the second-largest player in the global NAND flash market, is planning to take over the storage business unit of Taiwanese Lite-On Technology ahead of its listing scheduled for next year.

Lite-On Technology is the owner of SSD brand Plextor, which is well-known for its inexpensive yet high-performance products. The predecessor of the storage business unit of the Taiwanese company is Plextor, a ...
