Bad batches of Verbatim MCC 02RG20 at Amazon?

Postby bix on Wed Feb 16, 2005 4:11 pm

So I returned a spindle that wouldn't burn. I'm having the same problem w/ the replacement spindle. The Nero scans of the blank discs look like this:

Did Amazon get a bad batch? Should I contact Verbatim before I try my Amazon return this time?

Thanks,

What drive are you using? Have you tried other drives?

Going by the Z-CLV strat I'd say it's a Pioneer drive, though I'm not sure if it's an A07, A08 or A09. MCC02RG20 by CMC has been problematic for me on my PX-712A, but my SOHW-812S handles them with ease. I wonder if the batch bix got is made by CMC or Prodisc.

I'm using an LG GSA-4163B. It's my only DVD writer, though I also have a standalone recorder I could use.

On a related topic, seems like the 100 packs of ridata 4x dvd+r that amazon had (now out of stock i think) were also bad. I'm returning mine cause of defects, scratches etc.

And how I get it? Are the batches from CMC or Prodisc made in an other country?

I just received some of the same discs from Amazon.com (RICOHJPNR01) and so far I haven't had any problems. What media code are yours?

The inner hub serial (engraved in the clear plastic part) is the one that can identify whether the discs were made by CMC or Prodisc, but it's going to be hard to see.

How do you x-reference the serial number to the "true" manufacturer?

Thanks!

Every DVD manufacturer seems to use a different serial numbering scheme.

Hello!

Have get a batch of Verbatim DVD-R 8x, made in India. Can someone tell me if these media made by MBIL better or more worse than the ones are made in Taiwan by CMC/Prodisc?

My LG 4082 don´t can make scans, so I have to ask or visit a friend with a Benq 1640 for scans.
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

From what I've seen, MBIL-manufactured MCC media is of lesser quality than that made by CMC or Prodisc, though not unusable.

You mean it´s not so good like the taiwan-media, but still ok?

If anyone have scans of both media, it´s welcome :)

I like to know if your Verbatim DVD-R 8x with the "MCC 02 RG20" media code were sold in 25 piece spindles or not ??

I hope that you did not get one of these "Verbatim":

i don't know how usefult this is to you. my drive is BenQ DW1620, and apparently it doesn't like Prodisc.
on my drive at least the MBIL is much better than the Prodisc (DVD-R anyway).

here are some scans.
all discs are Verbatim DataLifePlus 8x certified, burned at 12x, burned and scanned on BenQ DW1620 B7P9

We need the other one that is printed in the hub which should be readable from the top site.

Thanks for the scans, dodecahedron :)

Read it a few times than Benq have trouble with Prodisc. But I think that Prodisc use the MCC-specification (which are different to the original-Prodisc)for producing media with the MCC-codes. So I wonder why your results are so different.

i don't know. but the results you see for yourself.
at the time i had discussed this with dolphininus_rex and he had said his 1620 didn't like Prodics. but then he never used Prodisc-made-VerbatimDLP.

it's possible that my drive is not a good drive.
look at the scan below. that's a 8x TDK DVD+R made by TY (MIJ). burned at 8x. not very good for TY media. i was very upset. right now it's the only TY spindle i have so i can't check if it's just a bad batch.

That´s really no good for T02, especially because it´s burned @8x.

yeah. that's why i was very upset.

very curious. look at the next 2 scans. these are the same media - 8x TDK DVD+R T02 from the same spindle. test disc made by CDSpeed 4.01. the first burned at 8x the second at 16x.
the 16x burn has better PIE - quite ridiculous. but maybe it's just test variance.

in any case, very disappointing results for TY T02.

Hello!

Both scans are to bad for T02. I don´t have any TDK 8x with TY-code, but when I look at other T02-scans (written by Benq) a score from 95 and higher is normal.

Maybe you can get some other T02 to test.

Did you have similar problems with other good media, like MCC?

all the media i have is that TY TDK and those MBIL VerbatimDLP (made in India) that i posted above. the MBIL Verbatim are better than the TY !?! :o :(

i should be getting some more in the next week, including more TY (Fuji MIJ) so we'll see if it was just a bad spindle of TY or if i have a lemon drive.

The c´t-review showed that Verbatim is the better one for stability.

But all the scans I have see, TY is mostly better than MCC in writing-quality and have lower PI/PIF
