ioSafe today announced the availability of the ioSafe Rugged Portable plus Data Recovery Service. The Rugged Portable is the latest addition to the award-winning ioSafe product line and provides unparalleled physical security for mobile data backed by the industry's best warranty and ioSafe's unique Data Recovery service which provides up to $5,000 towards the cost of third-party forensic data recovery services.
The Rugged Portable is available in aluminum HDD and SSD and titanium SSD versions. The HDD version is available in capacities between 250 GB and 1 TB while the titanium SSD version is available in capacities of 256 or 512 GB. All versions support USB 3.0 and are backwards compatible with USB 2.0. A FireWire version will be available in March 2011.

Driving a new era of how people consume their digital content, Seagate today announced a new program to allow third-party companies to incorporate slots on their products to support removable GoFlex external hard drives. First introduced in May of 2010, the GoFlex family is the next evolution of consumer external hard drives providing the ability to use an assortment of storage products and interfaces to correspond with consumer’s needs. The Certified GoFlex Storage System concept products on display range from media players and set-top boxes to computers and televisions, and each will incorporate a slot to accept an ultra-portable drive compatible with the Certified GoFlex Storage System. This group of third-party prototype products underscores the growth of digital media consumption on an increasing number of consumer electronic products. The Certified GoFlex Storage System will provide a seamless method by which people can copy, record, access, share and enjoy more of the music, photos and videos they crave on a wider range of devices.
The Certified GoFlex Storage System initiative is a certification process whereby Seagate will qualify products from participating companies to incorporate slots that meet the specifications of accepting ultra-portable drives that meet the Certified GoFlex Storage System standard. The Certified GoFlex Storage System will establish placement of both slot-based consumer electronics devices as well as certification of third-party external storage modules. Seagate’s certification also endorses the soon to be established SATA – IO Universal Storage Module (USM) specification.

Clickfree, the inventors of effortless automatic backup, today announced the launch of Clickfree Wireless in the U.S., giving customers the simplicity of Clickfree’s totally automated backup solution with the benefit of a wireless connection. Clickfree Wireless will backup as many computers as the customers needs, both Windows and Mac, making it the ideal solution for both home and office.
Setting the standard and defining the term, ‘effortless backup,’ Clickfree has completely eliminated the need to download, install and configure software. Consumers don’t have to know anything about their home’s wireless setup or network configuration. By simply plugging the Clickfree Wireless device into each computer and performing an initial backup, all settings will be found and configured, and backups will be done automatically using 802.11n wireless technology. The device can be placed anywhere in the home, and does not need to be plugged in to any of the computers for it to continue backing up and safeguarding customers’ digital data.

Addressing the personal preferences of the Mac community, Seagate today introduced a new collection of GoFlex™ for Mac external drives designed to make it easy for those who use Mac OS X and Time Machine to backup, shuttle, or share their digital content.
These new portable and desktop solutions are HFS+ formatted out-of-the-box, making them fully compatible with Apple Time Machine backup software, while maintaining the ability to work across both Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X computers. A truly unique feature, GoFlex for Mac drives can also be used with computers running Windows by simply downloading an HFS+ driver for Windows from Seagate.com , which will provide full read-write access to the drive from a Windows computer.

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced that it has added two new drive families to its cast of consumer electronic (CE) optimized hard drives for the growing digital video recorder (DVR), IPTV set-top-box (STB), video surveillance and emerging hard drive-embedded TV markets. Targeting high capacity CE needs, the new drives include the 3.5-inch CinemaStar™ 5K2000 family, which brings 2TB and 1.5TB capacities, and the 2.5-inch CinemaStar C5K750 family with 750GB, 640GB and 500GB capacities. Each stem from a long legacy of low power, barely audible and reliable line of hard drives, specifically optimized and fine-tuned for the audio/video (A/V) market.
With multiple form factors to address a wide variety of needs, the new CinemaStar family makes it possible for DVR manufacturers to broaden their product offerings to cover the entire spectrum of customer needs – from high capacity, high performance multi-function systems to more economical units – all using the same leading-edge Hitachi GST CinemaStar family of drives.
