Western Digital, a leader in digital storage solutions, announced it will be offering a small-office storage server product and has signed an OEM software agreement with Microsoft Corporation to include the Windows® Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials operating system software. WD® will combine its leading storage technologies with Microsoft's operating system to deliver a complete storage solution for the small business market. The result will be a product that simplifies connection, protection and collaboration online for small businesses and the information technology services organizations that support them.
Fast, dependable and secure access to data, along with complete backup and recovery capability are becoming as crucial for small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) as it is for large enterprises. According to Forrester Research, SMBs will outpace the projected IT market growth rate of 7.1%. In terms of infrastructure spending increases, storage and servers top SMBs' hardware budget plans. Fifty-three percent of SMBs indicate that they will increase their storage spend. To serve this market, WD joined with Microsoft to incorporate the most advanced online features so businesses can easily and securely share information with clients, consultants or satellite offices located anywhere in the world.

Synology today launched DiskStation DS2411+, a 12-bay business-class NAS server designed for SMB users. The DS2411+ is built upon the company’s heritage of delivering cost-effective NAS servers with high scalability in storage capacity and high performance.
“The DS2411+ prepares SMBs for tomorrow’s data growth and demanding workloads, allowing them to tap into additional resources as needed,” said Chad Chiang, product manager of Synology Inc. When paired with Synology DX1211, its expansion unit, the DS2411+ is expandable to 24 bays to accommodate businesses’ staggering data. Data throughput can be ensured with an InfiniBand cable that carries 12Gb/sec SATA signal when bridging a connection.

Synology® Inc. is proud to launch its new xs series NAS servers, including 12-bay DiskStation DS3611xs and 10-bay RackStation RS3411xs/RS3411RPxs for large scale businesses.
“The xs series NAS servers are designed to scale up both storage capacity and performance in accordance with businesses’ growth,” said Derren Lu, CEO of Synology Inc. A single volume is expandable to over 100TB dynamically with expansion units via InfiniBand cables that carry 12Gb/s SATA signal to ensure high-bandwidth connectivity. Performance throughput can grow from one 1Gb Ethernet connection to 4Gb Ethernet aggregations or even dual 10Gb Ethernet aggregations.

Synology Inc. today announced the official release of VPN Center Package and AirPlay support, along with the Mail Station 2 package update for its DiskStations and RackStations. The official DiskStation Manager 3.1 (DSM 3.1) for USB Station 2 was also launched.
With the official VPN Center package implemented, a Synology NAS server works as a VPN server to provide cost-effective remote access solutions. Businesses can establish virtual networks to achieve full connectivity between their office locations, and allow their employees to reach resources and data as if they were within the private network.
AirPlay support provides an alternative way to conveniently stream multimedia content stored on Audio Station. Users can switch to the Media Renderer mode on Audio Station, and play music on any AirPlay devices. With DS audio, iOS and Android devices can also be used for streaming music to any AirPlay compatible products.
The operating system of USB Station 2 is now officially upgraded to DSM 3.1. Sharing multimedia content and documents is made more efficient with revamped Audio Station and File Browser which offers searching criteria and document preview. AirPlay and AirPrint support enrich the capabilities of mobile devices. Other enhanced features such as RSS feeds and torrent search on Download Station are also available.
