toshiba hk4 ssdToshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., a committed technology leader, announces the HK4 Series, a new enterprise 6Gbit/s SATA solid state drive (SSD) series, designed for read-intensive and value-endurance workloads. The HK4 Series is Toshiba’s first enterprise SSD to embed 15nm MLC NAND flash memory for enterprise and data center applications, including low latency tuned for high quality of service (QoS).

The read-intensive HK4R Series is available in capacities up to 1.92TB with low operating power and is suitable for enterprise applications such as web servers, files servers, media streaming, video-on-demand, search engines and warm data storage. The HK4E value-endurance drive offers an endurance level of three DWPD3 and a capacity up to 1.6TB. It is well suited for data centers and mixed workload applications.

The HK4 Series is also Toshiba’s first SATA SSD with optional Trusted Computing Group (TCG) enterprise encryption support and is also equipped with Toshiba’s QSBC® (Quadruple Swing-By Code) error technology. Toshiba’s proprietary QSBC® error-correction technology is a highly efficient error correction code (ECC) which helps protect customer data from corruption caused by NAND flash memory media wear, thus improving reliability and extending the life of Toshiba SSDs.

seagate 2tb mobile hddSeagate Technology plc, a world leader in storage solutions, today announced it is shipping the world’s first 2TB, 7mm hard disk drive (HDD)— the Seagate Mobile HDD. This ultra-high capacity mobile hard drive is the lightest, fastest and most power efficient 7mm drive in the industry, enabling a richer and more rewarding experience for users without compromising demand for laptops that are slim, light, and powerful.

“In an industry first, our engineers have been able to boost areal density to 1TB per platter in a 2.5-inch form factor, allowing our OEM customers the flexibility to design and build virtually any kind of laptop they can envision, with plenty of storage to boot,” said Matt Rutledge, Seagate’s senior vice president, client storage. “Laptops today must satisfy consumer demand for fast computing and high capacity storage capabilities on one hand, while also offering compelling designs and slim styling on the other. With the introduction of Seagate’s new Mobile HDD, laptop manufacturers no longer need to make tradeoffs between these seemingly competing mandates.”

Weighing just 3.17 oz., the diminutive Mobile HDD is 25 percent lighter than the previous generation of mobile hard drives. A smaller 7mm drive frees up valuable space in a mobile device to accommodate additional designed-in features, such as bigger batteries, more memory and better air circulation.
