Synology Inc. today launched the DiskStation DS413j, a 4-bay NAS server designed to address home and small office’s need for an advanced network and storage solution, yet remains as an affordable selection. Accompanied by recently debuted DiskStation Manager (DSM) 4.1, the operating system of every Synology NAS, users can safeguard their data and enjoy multimedia content seamlessly.

“Synology continues to surpass all obstacles to achieve a budget-friendly private cloud,” said Chad Jiang, product manager at Synology Inc. The DS413j features Web Assistant that guides users to complete the system installation in a few clicks with no disc installation or patch download required. With QuickConnect, users can easily extend the coverage of DS413j to the Internet without router configuration. Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced its entry into the cloud storage space with the Toshiba Canvio Personal Cloud. This easy-to-use storage hub allows users to save their extensive media libraries securely in their own homes, with the added benefit of being able to access and stream files remotely via the cloud. With the Canvio Personal Cloud, users will be able to access digital data at home or on the go with their tablets, smartphones or computers via an Internet connection.

Back in July, OCZ announced that it was working on its next generation SSD controller, the Indlinx Barefoot 3, and that it would begin sampling SSDs on this new controller in the August to September timeframe. Apparently, things are on schedule as Jess Luken, OCZ's Global Marketing Director, posted a picture of the Barefoot 3 on Twitter.

The Indilinx Barefoot 3 (IDX500M00-BC) is manufactured using TSMC's 65nm process technology. It also utilizes OCZ's internally designed Aragon 400 megahertz 32-bit processor which supports an SSD specific RISC instruction set. This allows most instructions and branches to be executed in a single cycle.

OCZ has not announced any Barefoot 3-based products yet. However, the company has said that we can "expect SSD sales related to Barefoot 3 in the third fiscal quarter", which should be sometime before the end of the year.
