The Travelstar 5K750 and 7K750 drive families are the first Hitachi GST hard drives that feature Advanced Format. Advanced Format increases the physical sector size on hard drives from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes. This helps utilize the storage surface area more efficiently, allowing for increased drive capacities and improved data integrity at higher storage densities. By integrating Hitachi drives with the new Advanced Format, IT managers, system integrators and OEMs can take advantage of the latest operating systems to deliver new high-capacity, power-efficient systems.

04 October 2010

Micron Technology, Inc. today announced that Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc. (HLDS) has selected Micron's award-winning 25-nanometer (nm) NAND as the flash memory solution for its new hybrid optical disk drive (ODD). The new HLDS Hybrid Drive with Micron's 25nm NAND technology provides a comprehensive mass storage and removable media solution for PCs, DVD players and Blu-ray products.

Micron's 25nm NAND process technology delivers 8-gigabytes (GB) of storage in a single device, enabling new applications that require high capacity storage in space constrained designs. The initial portfolio of HLDS Hybrid Drives will be offered in a range of embedded flash memory capacities including 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Higher NAND capacities of the Hybrid Drive will be available in future versions.

"The success of Micron's 25nm NAND flash memory has driven yet another innovative application," said Kevin Kilbuck, director of marketing for Micron's NAND solutions group. "The HLDS Hybrid Drive breakthrough is another example of Micron NAND flash technology's impact on everything from digital cameras and MP3 players, to smartphones, tablet PCs, and now hybrid ODDs."

04 October 2010

Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc. (HLDS), a global leader and technology innovator in optical disc storage (ODD), revealed to introduce SATA 6.0Gbps based 2nd Generation, 'Hybrid Drive', as a successive product to ODD Hybrid Drive 1st Generation introduced in Taiwan last June which was loaded with SSD (Solid State Drive) for the first time in the world, at CEATEC 2010 held in Makuhari Messe, Japan, from October 5 to 9.

The 2nd Generation, 'Hybrid Drive', is an innovative product equipped with SATA III (6.0Gbps) based improved speed, and a comprehensive SATA port, by accumulating ODD & SSD circuits in a integrated PCB. This is a perfect reincarnation of the previous ODD structure, and users of all PC products can utilize HDD, ODD, SDD at the same time without having to change the entire system, by just exchanging the previous ODD.

Differentiated functions have been added to the Hybrid Drive such as the Green Playback; a low electricity - Title playing technology, and a comparison of real functions between Hybrid Drive applied products and non applied products of AIO (All-in-one) PC, Mini PC, HTPC, Gaming/Premium Notebook, will be introduced at this CEATEC 2010.
