Western Digital Introduces My Passport Essential Portable Hard Drives With Limited Edition Designs
Western Digital today introduced its new 500 GB My Passport® Essential™ limited edition designs portable hard drives, available exclusively at Best Buy® and the WD Store. Consumers can choose from several unique designs that appeal to a wide variety of personal styles, ranging from outdoor enthusiasts to urban trendsetters.

Designed by students at California State University, Long Beach's Industrial Design program, the drives are available in the following styles: Boom Box, Black Hole, Cityscape, Fuchsia Leaf and Wave. The decorative patterns are especially geared for students who want to express their individual style while choosing a reliable, ultra-portable place to store their media and back up their valuable work.
The drives are Windows® compatible and include WD SmartWare™ software, which provides a simple, visual method for backup using a single-screen view of the drive's contents.
CDRLabs has taken an in depth look at Seagate's new external hard drive, the FreeAgent GoFlex Desk. This high-capacity desktop hard drive takes full advantage of Seagate's new GoFlex technology. While the drive supports USB 2.0 out of the box, its file transfer performance can be increased by up to 10x by swapping the GoFlex adapter base for one that supports USB 3.0 or FireWire 800. The GoFlex Desk drive also sports an illuminated capacity gauge and comes pre-loaded with easy-to-use backup software with encryption for both the Mac and PC.
