News of CD-ROM and DVD-ROM Drives

I have a TOshiba 1718 with the no limits firmware.

Before when I ripped spiderman to my hardrive (the full 7 gigs), it was done in about half an hour.

This time, I'm ripping pirates of the caribbean compressed, but at this rate, its going to take about an hour and a half!

Why is my ripping speed so slow? how can i change it to make it faster
?

Anyhow, I have a DVD i want to rip (pirates of the caribbean) but how do I do a compressed rip since this movie is a very large size?

I am using DVD Shrink 3 Beta 5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently experiencing problems with ripping DVD's and if you could help me, I would be very grateful.
Here's the situation: I pop my Spiderman Disk 1 DVD into my dvd rom.
It reads it fine and I can open it in PowerDvd to watch it.
I open DVD Shrink and I click back-up and do a full rip. I then rip the DVD onto my harddrive.
When I try to open ...

I am using DVD Decrypter and Lite-on 165H to rip movies. Why does the read rate max out at 7-8X. Should it not be higher? Is there a faster DVD drive out there?

Since I purchased my DVD burner (Pioneer A06) I have lost the availability to play DVD movies in my DVD-ROM drive. All other formats work. It started as Burner =master, DVD-ROM=slave. I have also tried it vice-versa. What am I missing?

I am in the market for a new DVD-ROM. I will be using the drive primarily for ripping purposes. At the same time I need a new CD-RW. Will the Lite On LTC-48161H perform as well and the LTD-166S?

I heard that Lite On drives rip at very good speed - just wanted to hear if anyone have tried the LTD-166S
