Plextor 716/716SA Booktype? (noob question)

Ok I am a noob, I admit it.

I bought the 716SA, got a Promise SATA controller listed as compatible, etc.

Running 1.04.

When I attempt to burn a self-authored dvd+r in NeroVision I can't get it to read in any machine other than my PC or Xbox.

I thought maybe this 'booktype' setting may change it. It did somewhat. I could suddenly play it in my new style PS2, yet it refuses to play ...

My Sony DRU510a doesn't want to work any more

Hi,
Been happily using DRU510a along with an HP300c for a year. Started to get issues with bad media!. Tried various brands (Verbatim, Maxell, Memorex, Datawrite, etc. ), still the same problem.

Either drive will burn data or video to DVD+RW disks with no problems at all but now neither drive will recognise DVD-R disks of any brand.

I updated the latest firmware for the Sony, I've uninstalled all DVD writing programs and just have ...

Changing the Plextor 716-A faceplate.

On page 87, step #5, I don't understand what I'm suppose to do. The pictures aren't clear enough and I have already damaged the original white bezel. It's not a big concern to me because I'll put a new black one in there. However, I'm scared to try any harder and might potential damage the tray.

Did you guys work with the writer upside down or from it's normal position? On step #5, the picture ...

External Lacies versus External Plextors

Hello. I can't choose between these two. The latest 716UF from Plextor and the d2 (?) from Lacie. The Plextor might have a better writing quality, which is essential here, but Lacies look so much nicer. I wonder what people think - is there a great difference in DVD-writing quality between these two? Which one would you recommend for DVDR writing work?

Also, has anyone experienced any stability problems with external DVD drives (firewire/usb issues)?

In House Review - NEC ND-3520A 16x DVD±RW

Today CDRLabs brings you a review of NEC's second generation 16x DVD±RW, the ND-3520A. While affordably priced, the drive features some of the fastest reading and writing speeds available. The ND-3520A is capable of 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW and 6x DVD-RW writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. More importantly, it's one of the first drives to feature support for both the DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL formats.

In this review ...

PlexTools Question

Quick question I hope. I downloaded the 2.19 version from Plextor but when I tried to install it says Plextools Professional not found.

Is this standard for Plextools to be an upgrade from the website? I assume I need to go load from the DVD I received with my PX-716a and then upgrade.

Just wondering if anyone knew.

Thanks.

Are there any DVD writers that can copy bit for bit audio?

Besides the Plextor 716-A drive, are there any other? I only have one 5.25" bay so I need to get a combo drive like this. Thanks.

Lightscribe Article (review?) @ PC World

Judging by the authors comments, he was able to test an HP 640i.

Hopefully we'll see some more in depth testing, as well as some pictures, soon.

Bad batches of Verbatim MCC 02RG20 at Amazon?

So I returned a spindle that wouldn't burn. I'm having the same problem w/ the replacement spindle. The Nero scans of the blank discs look like this:

Did Amazon get a bad batch? Should I contact Verbatim before I try my Amazon return this time?

Thanks,
-David
