I have a WD20 GB HD in a USB2 external case. I was making a backup of my W2K Pro system and noticed that I was only getting 45 to 54MB/sec transfer speed when hooked up to a USB2 port. Why is this speed so slow? I
thought USB2 would provide a greater transfer rate than that.

Please Help!

i bought a USB-IrDA converter (an IrDA device that plugs into a USB port - giving a desktop PC an IrDA communications port).

it's a cheapo one made in China - called WORLD ADS-188IR IrDA Adapter.

plugged it into the USB, WinXP recoginzed it, installed the WinXP drivers from the CD that came with it, all appears to be fine, it appears in the Device Manager under Infrared devices and (according to Device Manager) appears ...

I put a 40 GB Maxtor hard drive in it (that had been previously installed in my computer, until I got a new larger drive to go inside). What is the use of the 4-PIN connector on ATX Supply? It is supposed to provide 12V to the CPU. My mobo (K7N2G-ILSR) has one. But my board powers up nicely on one of the older supply which does not have this connector, and the OS correctly detects the CPU too.
So what is its real use?

I'm building a gaming AMD 64 3500+ (socket 939) based PC for a friend and we are trying to decide of the Video card. We have decided to go for PCI express. But I can't see the difference between a GeForce FX Series board and the equivalent Geforce 6 Series. Same goes for ATI 9800 vs. x800. Which series be more of a gaming card and why ?

i have two things i want to do:

record home movies from vhs to disk

record music live from mixer to cdr

i have a computer (duh) with crappy soundcard and no videocard. i was hoping to go for a tabletop unit for simplicity but this doesn't seem to be a real option at this time (anything in the works there?) any recs on the best way to go? any help is appreciated.

I have an October 2004 model LVW-5005A which will not recognize firmware updates (although some users claim theirs did).

Is there possibly a problem with some lots of this recorder sold by Costco this December? I would very much appreciate hearing the experiences of others who have this model.
