nu dual firmware is out

Postby marcolcp on Fri Dec 26, 2003 11:06 am

Just visit a Taiwan Web-site and discover a new dual firmware for nu 8x writer. I am wonder whether this new firmware can be further upgrade to 8x, which had already been upgraded from nu 6x writer. Does anyone want to try and willing to share his result to us. Thanks.

Here's a direct link to the firmware:

http://www.computerdiy.com.tw/modules/m ... id=2&lid=2

I'd make a local mirror, but I'm working via modem right now.

Has anyone tried this firmware yet?

If someone who understands what is written on that page could explain, it would help. What is the firmware suppose to do and what drives does it apply to?

Read the page. Some people have success with the firmware.

DDW081+Nero+CMC 4x DVD-R => Success (6 disc)
DDW081+Nero+Imation 4x DVD-R => Success
DDW081+Nero+CMC 4x DVD-R => sucess (15 disc)

Best seems to be with CMC 4X, MaxMax 4X and Imation 4X

Traxdata 4X => 50% bomb out
Ritek 4X => burnt but cannot be read.
Imation DVD-RW => not recognize at all.

On PCDVD, it was said that 061->081->081Dual(actually, it is now called 082), on the last conversion, there will be an error message, but burning is okay.

A lot of the media quoted are the brands that they can buy in Taiwan. So no much help for the folks in the US.

Just a summary of the info there, please use your own judgement in doing the upgrade.....

Well that is progress. I could have bought that drive locally but I got a 811 instead becuase I KNOW the 811 did both formats and the Nutek was just a fairly good promise of support later. Now if it really gets dual layer and the 811 doesn't I might be :evil: But it sounds like dual might require more then firmware so we'll see who wins the lottery. It will probably be much better with the official release. They're getting so cheap it's like buying cdrw's almost.

Traxdata -r is Ritek -r media.

That CMC works fine. Is not a surprise if Nutech did do a fair optimalisation for CMC media that is. Since CMC can make quite nice disc's when it comes to the dvd recording aspect. Still I don't like the suspension in the policarbonate I sometimes encounter !

Flashed mine from 061 -081 then to 082 with no issues, though I got that warning to contact vendor.

Don't have any DVD-R to test though

What program do I use to see the drive capabilities?

Yes, I cannot get back to 06 and neither can I run 360 again. It is rather frustrating. I noticed much lower write quality on my ricoh 4x dvd+r media at 6x burn speed(I use 6x so there aren't any spikes at the upshot to 8x during 8x burning) with the 360 firmware.

Anyone else can confirm the lower write quality on dvd+r with 360 firmware?

Any ideas on getting back to bx06?

Also, I cannot burn to CMC DVD-R rated at 2x. Nero errors out without even starting, says write error immediately after I click on burn.

I plan on suspending any burning activity with 360 firmware until I can get back to 06 just as a precaution.

Thanks

Nope, still won't update from 360 to bx30. It gives me that vendor error and sits there with 8 bars.

I am having the same problem as Tazan007. To anybody thinking of trying the B360 Dual, it appears to be a beta and is problematic. Hopefully, somebody can figure out how to get back to BX06 or BX30.

Ian, have you retested the cdrw tests with the new firmware?

Also, it would seem we (those who tried the 360 firmware) will be stuck with it until there is an update (assuming there is an update).

I miss the good ole days of DOS firmware updates. A simple, are you sure question and flashed it no matter what the model/make was as long as it recognized the chipset. Stupid winflash.
