CDRLabs has taken an in depth look at Samsung's 512GB SSD 840 Pro Series solid state drive. Designed and built completely in-house, the SSD 840 Pro is powered by Samsung's own triple-core MDX controller and features a SATA 6GB/s interface, specially-engineered wear-leveling and garbage collection algorithms and AES 256-bit full disk encryption. The drive also packs up to 512MB of cache and is equipped with Samsung's Toggle DDR2 NAND flash memory to deliver up to 540MB/s read and 520MB/s write speeds.

Today, CDRLabs brings you a review of QNAP's two-bay TS-x69L series Turbo NAS, the TS-269L. Designed to meet the needs of home and small office users, the TS-269L is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor and comes equipped with 1GB of DDR3 RAM, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 ports and a 512MB DOM (Disk on Module) with dual firmware image design. Like QNAP's other Turbo NAS servers, the TS-269L offers a long list of features including cross-platform file sharing, centralized storage and backups for Windows, Mac and Linux users. It can also stream multimedia content to network media players or play it directly on the TV in the living room using its built-in HDMI port and HD Station.

CDRLabs kicks off the week with a review of Silicon Power's Armor A15 USB 3.0 portable hard drive. Available in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB capacities, this rugged drive meets the U.S. military's drop-test standards with two-stage anti-shock technology. Along with a durable, anti-shock outer casing, the Armor A15 is equipped with an advanced internal hard drive suspension system. The drive also features a one touch backup button as well as a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface which allows transfer speeds up to 10x faster than USB 2.0.

CDRLabs has taken an in depth look at OCZ's Vector solid state drive. Available in capacities ranging from 128GB up to 512GB, the Vector is based on OCZ's new Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller. Developed entirely in-house, this cutting-edge controller is powered by both an ARM Cortex processor and OCZ's own Aragon co-processor and features an advanced, multi-level ECC engine, efficient garbage collection and adaptive flash management algorithms. The Vector is also equipped with 25nm synchronous MLC NAND and an extra large DRAM cache to deliver up to 550MB/s read and 530MB/s write speeds along with a maximum of 95,000 4KB random write IOPS.

CDRLabs kicks off the week with a review of Plextor's new 256GB M5Pro Xtreme Series SSD, the PX-256M5Pro Xtreme. Along with the recently released Xtreme firmware, this upgraded version of the M5 Pro uses a newly engineered and redesigned PCB board that combines Marvell's 88SS9187 controller with Toshiba’s latest 19nm Toggle Mode MLC NAND flash. Available in capacities ranging from 64GB up to 512GB, this cost-effective alternative to the popular Vertex 4 is based on OCZ's advanced Indilinx Everest 2 controller platform and offers features like TRIM support, dynamic wear-leveling, AES-256 encryption and Ndurance 2.0 technology, which extends the life of NAND flash well beyond its manufacturer rated specifications. The Agility 4 is also equipped with asynchronous MLC NAND and an extra large DRAM cache to deliver up to 420MB/s read and 410MB/s write speeds as well as a maximum of 85,000 4KB random write IOPS.

This new consumer-oriented SSD is powered by Marvell's 88SS9175 controller chip and is equipped with SanDisk's own 19nm eX2 ABL MLC NAND to deliver up to 530MB/s read and 450MB/s write speeds. The Ultra Plus also packs 128MB of DRAM cache and offers features like TRIM support, dynamic wear-leveling, background garbage collection and SanDisk's nCache technology which uses a large non-volatile SLC cache to improve random write performance.
