News of DVD Writers

Is there any known method to waterproof inkjet printable DVDRs after you've printed on them?

I've heard of spraying some kind of clearcoat on them, but there are never any detailed instructions on how to do it (i.e. what type of spray to use, how do you apply it evenly, etc).

Also I've heard of lamination, and was wondering if anyone had any insight on that.

Or if anybody knows of any other methods, that ...

One of the reasons that I bought a DVD burner 18 months ago was so I could backup information and programs on my desktop.

In a thread below a few posters indicated that DVDs were a poor choice for media for backing up information. ( I burn mostly DVD+R single layer media)

Why is that the case? What works better.....other than another hard drive?

BTW.....what is the best program for backing up a hard drive....say ...

To Date, my only use of DVDs is to backup my RAW photo files. Frequently, a photo session will not yield 4GB of data and I'll use multi-session to fill a DVD.

Am I at risk of corrupting a disc by adding 2nd and 3rd sessions? Does it matter +R or -R, the NEC 3520 burns -R a bit faster, better?

What burning strategy I should follow? ...

why has a newer drive been announced so soon after the release of the 3520A? the only thing i can see thats different in the spec is the speed of writing CDRWs (32x instead of 24x in the 3520a) and DVD +R9 is 8x instead of 4x

which firmware would everyone recommend for the 3520a? i currently have the original release 1.25

2006 legislation may require all computer components to be lead free; is the current ND3520 lead-free and if not will NEC release a new version anytime soon which will not contain any lead ?

Why does this say it's posted February 24th? And why has the file name changed? This looks like a bug fix update for the original 1.04 firmware.
Seems to me like this slipped under the radar at more than one site.

At first, I thought the date change was a typo. But the file name has changed as well . . .

Hi, I'm getting a new computer and so thinking of finally getting a DVD writer. But I don't know what to look for!! I've got a CD writer and I know quite a lot about C1/C2 errors and the best CDR's to use etc, but for DVD stuff, I've got no idea. It just seems much more complex.

Can anyone give me some tips on buying a writer?

I'm looking for a reliable, fast writer ...
