News of DVD Writers

I have quick question, I have a artec dvd burner, but for some odd reason it does not work, my computer recognizes that its connected, but it does not read any type of disk, my computer also tells me that the drive is not ready, even though my computer states (that the device is working properly), nero is installed on my computer, but it doesn't help anything, how do fix this problem?

Because Im living in Sweden and the SATA havent come out here yet, I have been waiting for 3 weeks and asked a lot swedish computer site if they are going to get that soon but they dont know anything about it.

Does anyone here have a Pioneeer A07 or a Pioneer 107d? If so, when you read a burnt dvd, does it make 3 or 4 wierd noises when doing a transfer test with cdspeed? I had archived some files onto a Memorex DVD+RW. I am now ready to update the contents of the disc. I want to copy its contents to my h/d first, but am having problems.
